(The Last Judgment | Reload - via source)

Hieronymus Bosch - born Jheronimus van Aken around the year 1450 - was an Early Netherlandish painter known for his fantastic imagery that warned of fantastically awful punshiments for those who fail to live on the straight and narrow.

His triptych The Last Judgment was finished around 1500 (he never dated his paintings) and can be found in Vienna at the Academy of Fine Arts. When closed, the two outside shutter-panels each depict a saint in muted tones in gray, called grisaille; when opened, a three-part morality tale rendered in lurid hues bursts forth. The left panel depicts God in his heaven, casting out the rebellious angels; playing out below them is the story of the expulsion from Eden and the fall of man. The middle panel shows souls in limbo as they await judgement by Jesus and the saints, who are floating around at the top. If deemed wicked, one's soul then went to the right-hand panel to face Satan, seated on the bottom right and busy meting out sinners' eternal tortures and punishments. (Bosch images)

The time is now apparently right for Bosch 3.0. This snazzy series, The Last Judgment | Reload, was the work of a creative team: Julia Caesar & Angel Ulianov (styling), Anastasia Valova (photo | postproduction design), Edgar Sarkisyan (hair), Alexander Bloomwood & Ignat Strukalev.

I love the ginormous Doc Marten boot in the image at top - very Monty Python, for sure - but also supremely stylish and practical and what I want on my feet should the Apocalypse ever materialize.

And will the Endtimes ever materialize?

Who knows, but the theme of this Reload series definitely puts this gorgeous fashion photography/illustration squarely in the Apocalytical fashion tribe* camp for me, highlighting what I like best about them: their -alytical ending.

I love how these Apocalyticals referenced a classic piece of art in such a thoughtful, cheeky and fresh way. For more of my posts & podcasts about the Apocalytical fashion tribe, CLICK HERE. If you want to learn more about all the fashion tribes I cover, START HERE.
