In a rarely-seen fashion turnaround ( Jil Sander notwithstanding), designer Carlo Brandelli is back at the helm of British brand Kilgour, after resigning in 2009.
The designer’s departure was reported at the time to be down to disagreements with the then-owners – JMH – over the brand’s direction. Brandelli was said to be keen to focus on developing the product and profile of the label’s ready-to-wear business, while the company’s Dubai-based owner said it would rather place emphasis on the brand’s bespoke tailoring. But, after the brand was sold in September 2013, the label’s new owners – No. 14 Savile Row, a subsidiary of Fung Capital – began working to bring him back.
Brandelli’s return collection for the brand will debut in February on Mr Porter and will take inspiration from the designer’s past creations for Kilgour, before its first entirely new collection in four years arrives this autumn. Kilgour will also open a new flagship store on Savile Row in June, designed by Brandelli.
