You know it’s summer in London when the season’s fashion trends showcase warm jackets and pullovers. This year’s Spring/Summer men’s collections were of course dominated by attire that was summer-suitable, yet relatively windproof for those chilly, British, summers.
The collections reminded us of a few things, but also introduced new, fun trends for spring and summer. Let’s start with a firm favourite, that undoubtedly has not stopped appearing…
1. The 70’s aren’t over yet
That’s right lads, the 70’s have not yet passed us by – and for SS17, we’re still not bored! Small, cropped jackets and flared jeans were seen at Agi & Sam, while Topman brought back the luxe 70’s tracksuit. The nod to the seventies was reinforced throughout various collections with coppery-brown tones at Oliver Spencer, E. Tautz, and Topman.
The celebration of 40 years of punk this year was saluted with skinny trousers in tartan seen at Coach with a sporty twist, if you fancy some punk fiction with your fashion edition.

Challenging the almighty 70’s were a few other fashion trends that caught our fancy…
2. A pocket or two
Christopher Raeburn collaborated with Avery Dennison, bringing the space age into modernity. Utility pockets were seen on jackets, t-shirts, and trousers. Fabrics were lightweight and somewhat waterproof at Feng Chen Wang, who attempted to transport air pockets in trousers and jackets.

3. Take a breather
Following the tracksuit tops of AW16, tailored joggers were seen on the bottom as well – walking the tightrope between sportswear and casual wear. Spring/summer’s tracksuit is luxe, yet comfortable.
Loose, slouchy, trousers were preferred to the slim classic – no need for uncomfortably tight trousers sticking to sweaty thighs. Some designers went so slouchy, that models appeared to be almost drowning in fabric (see Xander Zhou).

Last, but not least, our favourite fashion trends round off with this summery cocktail…
4. Powder puff
While the likes of E. Tautz and Hardy Amies relished in neutrals, designers such as Xander Zhou, Craig Green, and Topman incorporated powdery blush tones. Why not match your cloudy pink lemonade whilst sipping it in the summer shade?

As the men’s shows often offer a sneak peak of what to expect from the same season’s women’s collections, we’re extremely excited to see how these trends may be morphed into their female counterparts come September.
