Harry Potter fans have got yet another reason to celebrate! Shirin Mehrotra ,a Mumbai-based blogger, has given a complete new definition to ‘Felix Felicis’, Harry Potter’s magic potion, by re-creating it as a rum-based magical cocktail. Mehrotra, a food blogger who has made the potion to be boozy got this inspiration while re-reading Harry Potter and Half-Blood Prince.

In the book, the potion has been described as ‘liquid luck’, which brings good fortune to the one who consumes it and Harry Potter has been portrayed winning it during a class with Professor Slughorn.

The ‘Felix Felicis’ was a part of Mehrotra’s literary kitchen project, where she created dishes inspired from every book that she read and tried to style it the way described in the book. Mehrotra’s past creations include ginger newts from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, beetroot soup and roasted sweet potato from Disgrace, and hot chocolate from Chocolat.

In an interview with a website, Mehrotra said, “Felix Felicis was something that I wanted to make for a very long time and always imagined it as a boozy drink that’ll make you slightly tipsy,” Adding, “The concoction that I made was a mix of sweet, sour, bitter with a hint of cinnamon.”

Elaborating urther on her inspiration, Mehrotra said that while the book doesn’t mention the recipe, she imagined it to be alcoholic because Slughorn describes it as a drink that can cause giddiness, recklessness and dangerous confidence, ‘if taken in excess’.

According to Mehrotra, the potion can be dangerous if consumed in excess just like alcohol and contains 60 ml of rum, palm jaggery syrup, orange bitters, lime juice, cinnamon powder and either water, soda or rose wine.
