The popular band Coldplay’s announcement to visit India in November this year has sent its fans into frenzy! While some are counting the days left for its arrival, some have gone an extra mile to pay homage to their favourite band. One such fan is Mumbai-based Kalyani Nerurkar, a 24-year-old illustrator and copy writer, who has expressed her adoration for Coldplay in a series of elaborate and vivid illustrations on Instagram. Every drawing of Kalyani, depicts her favourite songs from the band. The ongoing series so far has seen 11 songs depicted in intricate doodle that has a perfect amalgamation of expression and riots of colour.
Speaking about her love affair with the band, Kalyani, says, “I’ve been a dedicated Coldplayer for many years. Each album, whether it’s Parachutes, A Rush of Blood to the Head, or Ghost Stories, connects with me in a very real, artistic yet spiritual way that goes beyond regular music listening and transcends into inspiration. It is my tribute to one of the greatest rock bands, ever and I really hope they notice this crazy fandom.”
All the songs of the band that have been portrayed in the drawing look very beautiful. Kalyani was inspired by her sister to draw, and she says that doodling gives her peace of mind and an opportunity to ‘channelise creative ideas in a coherent manner’. The illustrator takes up commissioned work as well, including doing song representations by other bands such as the Beatles and Linkin Park.
However, she maintains that the Coldpaly series is a labour of love and straight out of heart. Her very first illustration was that of the song, ‘The Scientist’, which she drew last year.
“It was just one rainy afternoon and I was listening to the song on loop, so I ended up illustrating the entire song lyrics with doodles. I shared it on social media and surprisingly got a lot of positive feedback. And then I just decided, what the heck, let me make a series out of this,” Kalyani said.
Expressing her desire to meet the band members, she quips, “I hope I can meet them someday and gift them these doodles. That really is my not-so-hidden agenda!”
