Giacomorelli are fashionable & quirkyrubber-soled luxury staples sneakers now trending from Milan to Paris and London, are the brain child of a 28-year-young Italian designer, Giacomo Morelli.
Morelli who studied design for ready-to-wear garments at Marangoni and never intended to design shoes but his natural habitat was the shoe industry, as his father was working in the footwear industry, most of his friends were in the shoe businessand also Marches, the city he grew up in, manufacturing shoes is very big there, so designing shoes just naturally fit in.
He first launched his shoes in Hong Kong. As per Morelli, “The type of shoes we made was considered too alternative for the Italian men. So Italy took some time, but soon we got picked up by several local retailers, including LuisaViaRoma. I’d say the Italian market is more fearful of the new, compared to Asia. In Italy you also need to invest more into communication in order to get a proper response from the public. In Asia we’re stocked at many of the major department stores (10 Corso Como, Galeries Lafayette, etc.) and it’s basically like, if they like what they see, they’ll buy it.”
