According to French fashionistas, the key to effortless French style is creating a capsule wardrobe, with five staple items forming the backbone of multiple outfits:

Little black dress

Skinny jeans

Fitted shirt

Black jacket

Ballet pumps

To bring you inspiration on how to style these items this side of the Channel, we’ve challenged top UK fashion bloggers to wear their five capsule essentials for five days. For round two we introduce Sophie Green of www.lafashionfolie.com.

Tuesday

Sophie often looks to Vogue Paris staff for style inspiration. “When I think of them, I think of great shirts – the style elite are often seen heading to Paris Fashion Week in a silky, button-front number.” Sophie paired her slinky pinstripe shirt with a pair of on-trend black dungarees for a day at the office.

“I wear shirts to the office most days, so this number will be in high rotation in my work-wear wardrobe.”

Sophie’s shirt tip: “Natural fabrics are key with a good shirt – I only wear cotton and silk.”

Wednesday

“A black jacket is a wear-forever wardrobe staple… but if you’re going to invest in one, make it leather – they age so well.” Styling her staple black jacket with a Breton top and denim skirt (another summer capsule wardrobe essential), Sophie creates an easy, effortless look which exudes Parisian chic.

Sophie’s black jacket tip: “The leather jacket transcends seasons. Come winter, I’ll be styling mine over knitwear.”

Thursday

Date night called for Sophie’s staple little black dress – a stunning Sixties-inspired Coralie Marabelle box pleat number. “I’m a firm believer of wearing something fabulous with something ordinary, so I styled my LBD with a cropped, distressed denim jacket.”

Finishing with a pair of pointed ballet pumps adds a little romance to this updated classic look – très chic!

Sophie’s pump tip: “A pointed flat is great if you’re after something flattering – the shape elongates the leg.”

Friday

For Sophie, post-work drinks mean simple, sophisticated style. Slipping on her trusty skinny jeans with a cool French Breton top, a sleeveless navy jacket and some court shoes, she goes from desk to drinks with stylish ease. “I like to wear my jeans cropped – this length looks great with heels.”

Sophie’s jean tip: “Skinny jeans may be overshadowed by loose-fit and ‘70s flares at present, but skinny styles endure fashion fads.”

Saturday

Stepping into the weekend with comfort and style, Sophie wore her ankle-grazing skinnies for the second time this week – this time pairing them with a short-sleeved Breton tee and her trusty leather jacket.

The jacket creates “that effortless rock and roll, dishevelled-yet-put-together look synonymous with French style”, making it a linchpin of the French capsule wardrobe.
