It is almost 20 years since she was a member of the Royal Family but Sarah Ferguson, formerly known as the Duchess of York, certainly hasn’t forgotten how to curtsey.

The 55-year-old, who was resplendent in a blue dress, dropped into a deep curtsey as her former mother-in-law, the Queen, appeared in the Royal Enclosure at Royal Ascot.

Fergie, who was making her first appearance at the races this week, was joined by her ex-husband Prince Andrew, 55, and their two daughters Beatrice, 26, and Eugenie, 25, returning for the third and second time respectively.

Princess Beatrice has undoubtedly made a print at the Royal Ascot this year.

Leaving her string of fashion faux pas’ firmly in the past, the young royal has blossomed into a style maven for the races and she’s been turning heads with her meticulous fashion choices.

And Princess Bea struck our sartorial chords yet again today in a feminine ensemble of a lace paisley crop top and a statement Mary Katranztou printed skirt from the British-based designer’s Pre Fall 2015 collection which embodied dark, moody prints – with this navy and gold pattern being a prevalent motif from the line.

Paired with some easy-to-wear nude and black ankle strap heels by Miss KG (buy below) and a chic navy fascinator, this princess was the Queen Bea of the Ascot, no doubt about it.

Sadly, this skirt is not available to buy just yet, but click through to the right to nab a similar skirt from Katrantzou’s current collection.

Joining the family was Beatrice’s boyfriend Dave Clark, 31, a former Virgin Galactic executive who often joins the 26-year-old Princess on her many sunshine holidays and was also in Bahrain at this year’s Grand Prix.

Despite her deep curtsey, the sight of the erstwhile Duchess of York is unlikely to have pleased the Duke of Edinburgh who reportedly dislikes the 55-year-old and finds her continuing co-habitation with Prince Andrew ‘baffling’.

Their continuing closeness – and the presence of 55-year-old at Balmoral last summer – has even sparked speculation about the possibility of the pair re-marrying, although Fergie has recently been seen enjoying the company of a younger man.

Either way, the redhead certainly appeared to be enjoying her day at the races and was seen roaring with laughter along with Mr Clark and her daughters – both of whom looked lovely in hats by milliners Juliette Botterill and Nerida Fraiman – in their box.

The Queen, meanwhile, was on cheerful form and waved to the crowds as she was driven up the course, seated beside the Duke of Edinburgh, during the traditional carriage procession.

Enjoying the action: Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Prince Andrew, Sarah Ferguson and Dave Clark watch the racing action

Good day for a giggle: The erstwhile Duchess of York shares a joke with daughters Beatrice and Eugenie and Beatrice’s boyfriend Dave Clark

Her Majesty, who has no runners after withdrawing bay three-year-old Fabricate from the Queen’s Vase this morning, was elegant in a Stewart Parvin ensemble and was joined in the Royal Enclosure by racing manager John Warren.

She also left the bookmakers reeling and facing large payouts for the third time this week after choosing yellow – the punter’s favourite which, this morning, was being offered at 2-1 by Ladbrokes.

Her choice of pink on Tuesday and blue on Wednesday had already cost the bookies ‘tens of thousands of pounds’ but she did offer them a brief respite yesterday by opting for a mint green ensemble instead of an ivory one.

Also in the Royal Enclosure was Zara Tindall, looking wonderful in a Paul Costelloe ensemble, and her ex-rugby international husband Mike, plus the Conservative MP for Mid-Sussex Sir Nicholas Soames and his wife, artist Serena Smith.

Zara was making her first appearance at the race meeting since sparking pregnancy rumours on Tuesday when she wore an ill-fitting yellow dress that emphasised her stomach.

Last night, the 34-year-old appeared at the London launch of her new jewellery collection sporting a loose-fitting black dress and carrying a clutch that she used to conceal her tummy.

But today, it was back to business as usual with the eventer stepping out looking lovely in a navy dress and jacket, again by Costelloe, and a dark navy ‘Tokyo’ hat by milliner Rosie Olivia.

Although one of the best-known, Zara wasn’t the only sporting star to grace the Royal Enclosure and was joined by recently retired jockey A.P McCoy and his wife Chanelle – a close friend of Zara and Mike’s.

As ever though, all eyes were on the hat parade going on in the paddock, with guests once again pulling out all the stops in a bid to impress on day four of the historic race meeting.

The fourth day of Royal Ascot is traditionally dedicated to the Armed Forces and as a result, there was no shortage of men in uniform – or women echoing the theme of the day via their hats.

One lady even arrived wearing a fascinator in the shape of a Spitfire plane, perhaps marking the fact that the iconic fighter aircraft celebrates its 75th birthday this year.
