Week 2, and the X Factor is still seriously underwhelming us on the question of musical talent. With the exceptions of Hannah, Sam Bailey and the knockout and eventual winner that has to be Tamera, the show is woefully under-represented when it comes to real talent. Thank goodness then, for the fashion watch, which at least adds another element of interest to the story.

And this week it was most definitely honours even, with Nicole being the undeniable winner of Saturday night, and Sharon taking the plaudits on Sunday’s results show.

Saturday Night

Nicole always looks amazing when she wears bright colours, and Saturday was no exception. Her halter styled dress from Sen Couture was totally elegant with its column skirt, and Nicole’s toned arms were shown to perfection through the cut of the neckline. Her sweeping updo was also perfect for this dress, totally complimenting the graceful look of the dress.

I cannot say I was such a fan of Sharon’s monochrome gown. It was undeniably elegant in design, and yet there was something not quite right about it. The cutout detail seemed all wrong, it was quite a Dynasty 1980s look that really did nothing for Sharon, or her body shape. Blogger and personal stylist Karen Grace, who writes the Frumpy t0 Funky blog suggested that the dress would look far better if the colour ways were reversed, so the black paneling acted similar to an illusion dress, and I think this could be a solution. Otherwise, I’m thinking, this is a dress disaster for Mrs O.

The Sunday evening results show was a triumph, this time for Sharon. Nicole plumped for a black dress from Kristen Aadnevik that utilised one of those sheer skirts that I am just so bored of. Nicole obviously looked stunning, her bouncing curls were so pretty, and the bodice of the dress was beautiful. But the view of Bridget Jones style knickers are just becoming yawnsome, I think she is capable of so much more.

Sharon’s dress was pure Jessica Rabbit glamour, shimmering gold sequins that turned Mrs O from a grandmother into a goddess. I love the fact that she is showing options perfect for women who want to cover their arms, offering an alternative to strapless and sleeveless frocks, and I think this is something that the High Street are picking up on, with Wallis one store offering some amazing full length, long-sleeved gowns.
