I am preparing my house for the Super Bowl. Not because I give a fig about football. I honestly couldn’t care less. I know. Statements like that are considered blasphemous in some circles. Truly, though. I’m not interested. I didn’t even realize the biggest game of the year was this weekend until a lengthy conversation at work made it obvious. My husband watches football. He watches the Super Bowl. And because I love him and have learned that men don’t like to express their feelings but they will tell you if they enjoyed the food on the table, I plan to make him a manly feast. So he can sit on the couch and watch football while I find absolutely anything else in the world to do. I suppose I’ll show up for the commercials, but only because the world will be watching and talking about them. And I like to keep my finger on the pulse of the nation. Ahem.
Manly Menu for A Super Bowl Feast
Brisket — make it today or tomorrow so you have leftovers for Sunday. And by leftovers I mean those amazingly delicious little slider sandwiches featured in the photo, above.
Cheddar Biscuits — you’ll need one on the bottom and one on the type of a heaping mound of brisket. Yum.
Now those should fill ‘em up, but just in case you’re feeding a crowd or want to make this meal super special, here’s a recipe I made thanks to a contact from work. I call it “high-dollar chili” because the ingredients are a bit pricey. HOWEVER — and it’s a big however — this is the best chili I’ve ever had. It’s a chili that truly deserves to be served in a super bowl.
You’ll find the recipe for High Dollar Chili here. And hey, if you’re looking for other chili recipes — or have a tried and true version of your own, head over to Pinterest and add it to this Pin board. There’s a mighty cool contest going on, too! Ok, so maybe you’re feast need not be so ‘manly’ — maybe you don’t want to go to all the trouble of making brisket, baking biscuits or stirring the pot, so to speak, with my favorite chili recipe. Never fear! Here are a few quick and easy suggestions for a weekend of culinary meanderings:
Beef & Blue Sliders
Farmguy’s Pineapple Won tons
Easy Pepperoni Pizza Puffs
Pulled Pork Sandwiches
And because my football fan(s) has a sweet tooth:
Butterscotch Sweetie Pie
Best Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies. EVER.
Yeah. That’s a lot of cooking and baking. So here’s one more idea … you fix the parts and pieces and let them put the meal together. Best of all, it’s a [relatively] healthy alternative to biscuits and bacon and pepperoni puffs. And it really is amazingly delicious: Flank Steak Salad.
So those are my best Super Bowl Sunday recipe suggestions! Spend some time in the kitchen, which will keep them happy during the game … and if you’re stocked up and prepared with lots of tasty treats you can sneak away, like me …
Sorry, I couldn’t resist. This cracks me up because as much as I despise football I adore The Sound of Music. In fact, it’s one of my favorite things. Have a great weekend!
