He's an old soul, and a master of marksmanship, infiltration, espionage, combat and more knowledgeable about SHIELD than his clearance level should indicate.
- Over the course of the series, Clay uncovers the secrets of his legacy, all the dirty bones in his parents closet and former allies and enemies graveyards as well. His history as an Agent gives him an expertise and his life in the field away from Command allows him to remain somewhat aloof of the organization, though this aloofness is often taken as treachery and disloyalty, putting him into conflict wit his higher ups consistently. While he does smooth out his rough edges over the season turning froma very brutal Jason Borne like operative into a full blown 007 level agent, it takes work, and a powerful relationship he forms with his partner, Monica.
- Through the series, Clay and Monica's relatoinship takes on many forms, he starts as her Handler, and over time they become closer than brother and sister. Their relationship remains largely platonic, and it's this relationship that makes him the kind of person that he is.
- Clay's combat style is adaptive and spontaneous. He's forged it in the heat of the moment, reacting as things come. He has some pretty acrobatic gunplay maneuvers and is skilled with Muy Thai and Systema. He fancies misdirection, out talking his opponents, getting into their heads and throwing them off, has mastered distraction techniques, and generally knows how to annoy his way out of a conflict he doesn't want and into one he does want.

- Monica is a cop, by the book, and dedicated to overachieving. When she investigates the wrong case and ends up gaining super powers, it turns her entire life upside down. Her level head and fresh perspective give her the ability to see things her coworkers often don't. Her objectivity and perseverance make her the hardest worker in the organization, and she often, through this dilligence, comes across or sees things that others do not.
- This hard work is necessary to master her abilities, which are difficult to understand and even more difficult to control. She begins the series being able to perceive electromagnetic signals, making her a great tracker, and soon she learns to create these signals to cause interference. Over the course of the season, she learns to manipulate light, which provides a very useful tool for illumination, cutting and even some simple holograms, as well as her ability to absorb this energy comes into play from time to time. As time progresses, she learns about different parts of the EM spectrum and the science behind them, so that she can use them effectively in a way that adheres to real science. Over time, she gains control of infrared and ultraviolet, as well as radio, micro, gamma and x-rays, providing her with a number of powers. As she gains mastery of her abilities, she learns to transform into energy forms for short periods of time, though these manuevers are dangerous and difficult to come back from at first.
- In addition to learning how to use powers that often come with headaches, exhaustion, side effects and lots of concentration and practice time, she is learning to be a SHIELD Agent, which involves all the traditional espionage skills including marksmanship, interrogation, infiltration, and more. This process requires training from people like Johnny Woo, and others within SHIELD.
- With her every step of the way is her handler, Clay Quartermain. Over the course of the series, he becomes her trainer, her partner, her closest confidant and eventually, they become like family. While they are platonic through the majority of the series, having a male best friend proves to be an impediment to Monica's dating life, and eventually that issue needs to be resolved.

- This Ex-FBI Officer is recruited to SHIELD and is the strike force squad leader and trainer for the Chitauri Task Force. His mastery of espionage skills and teaching techniques make him a great trainer, which has earned him a bit of an infamous reputation around the agency as a hard teacher. He was once close with Tony Masters, where 'Taskmaster' was the trainer and he was the Squad Leader. Now, he handles both, and does so with brutal efficiency.
- Jimmy Woo is usually accompanied by a number of guys in SHIELD-labeled SWAT gear. He does still know how to operate solo if need be. His family has ties to some Chinese syndicates and so that eventually comes to haunt him. He also becomes a love interst for Maria Hill, something which has its share of ups and downs in its own right. In all cases, he is a man with a very straightforward code, and his reunions with Taskmaster are lively, if nothing else.
Jasper Sitwell - The Superior Officer, Mastermind (traitor)
- This former CIA Agent is the Task Force Lead Agent, and is charge of organization and personnel for the clean up. He's been assigned a team due to some challenges in doing all the cleanup. He is didactive, demanding and quick to handle things himself if his team isn't up to snuff. He displays himself to be tough, but fair, a brilliant agent and very hands on.

- G.W.'s past is dark. At one time he was a field agent, serving with Fury, in line to succeed him before things got ugly and tragic and he left to help with more mundane and civil pursuits.
