AUTHOR'S NOTE: Okay, so we ALL think the 2006 remake was terrible. Well, I figured, maybe if it was more accurate to the 1974 one, it would be better. So here's my take on the remake.

On December 23rd, 2006, an unseen man approaches a large house in Ontario, Canada, and then uses a ladder to climb into the house's attic. Meanwhile, the house is revealed to be a sorority, with a Christmas party going on on the floor below him. One of the occupants, Jess Bradford (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) receives a prank call with a man making weird noises, causing her to put him on speed dial and call everyone into the phone room. He eventually starts making explicit sexual references toward them, to the point where Jess's sorority friend Barb Wilkes (Emma Roberts) provokes him, causing him to reply "I'm Going To Kill You...", before he hangs up. Clair Harris (Alexandra Daddario) tries to tell Barb she shouldn't let something like that slide, but then she impulsively offends Clair, causing her to go up to her bedroom to pack her suitcase for when she leaves the next morning for Christmas vacation. While packing her bags, she hears hears Claude, a cat owned by her housemother, Mrs. Mac (Margot Kidder), meowing, causing her to investigate. Clair is then lured into her closet, where the killer suffocates her to death with wrapping paper. He then drags her body out of her room and into the attic, where he props it up in a rocking chair next to the attic window, lights a candle on the windowsill, and puts a doll in her lap. He then spends the rest of the night entertaining himself with it. The next morning, Christmas eve, Jess meets her boyfriend Peter Smith (Rory Culkin) after his piano lessons to inform him she is pregnant and wants an abortion. He is angered by this and leaves. Later, Clair's father (Jack Nicholson) arrives at the sorority house, claiming Clair did not meet him at the local church at 8:30am like he asked her to. However, Mrs. Mac, as well as Jess, Barb, and Phyl Thompson (Victoria Justice), the only ones who haven't left for Christmas break yet, have no idea where she is. They agree to help him look for her. Phyl and Barb go to the police station with Mr. Harris to report Clair missing, while Jess stays home with Mrs. Mac. However, the sheriff, Lt. Fuller (David Arquette) and his deputies, Sgt. Nash (Matthew Lillard) and Officer Jennings (Charlie Sheen) dismiss her disappearance, claiming she's probably ran off with a friend for Christmas. Back at the house, the stalker calls Jess again, claiming that "Billy" will pay for what he's done. She then gets a call from Barb and Phyl, who tell her about the police's response to Clair's disappearance. Hearing this, she finds Clair's boyfriend, Chris Belicec (Devin Bostick) and tells him that Clair is missing and the police don't care. This angers him, and they head to the police station. Meanwhile, a woman named Mrs. Quaife (Jodie Foster) has reported that her 13-year old daughter, Janice (Miranda Cosgrove) is missing as well. Later that evening, Mr. Harris has dinner at the sorority house. During supper, Barb is sent to bed when she gets drunk and confronts Phyl, who she thinks blames her for Clair running away due to her rude comment the previous night. A short time later, Lt. Fuller and Mrs. Quaife set up a search party in hopes of finding Clair and/or Janice, which Jess, Phyl, Mr. Harris, and Chris participate in. Janice is eventually found in the local park, apparently murdered by being stabbed in the neck with an icycle and hanged from a tree. Back at the house, Mrs. Mac is getting ready to leave to spend Christmas with her sister when she hears Claude in the attic. She goes in the attic to get him after her taxi arrives, and notices Clair's corpse. Mrs. Mac, scared stiff, then has a meat hook the killer tied to the attic ceiling launched into her neck, killing her almost instantly. The taxi driver gets impatient with Mrs. Mac and enters the house to investigate, only for the killer to reach down through the attic's trapdoor and stabs him in the head with a candy cane. Both bodies are then dragged into the attic. The cab driver's body is laid on the attic floor, and Mrs. Mac is set up by the attic wall. Minutes later, Jess arrives home to the phone ringing. She answers the phone, which is the killer, who tells her "I know what you did to me, filthy bitch!" before hanging up. Jess decides to report the obscene calls to Lt. Fuller and Sgt. Nash. Shortly after, Peter arrives at the house, trying to convince Jess not to get an abortion, but she tells him she isn't ready to have kids. She breaks up with him and he leaves. The cops arrive at the sorority house with Phyl. One of the agents, Graham (John Stamos), puts a "bug tracer" on the phone, so when the phone rings, it will also ring at the station house, and they can trace the call. They also set Officer Jennings in a police car next to the house to protect them. Phyl goes to bed, while Jess sits in the living room to answer the phone the next time it rings. Moments later, the killer quietly descends the attic and sneaks into Barb's room. Barb wakes up, causing her to have an asthma attack. The killer hides under the bed as Jess walks in and gives her an inhaler. Barb then claims she had a nightmare someone was in her room. Their conversation is cut short by door-to-door Christmas carolers, causing Jess to leave and answer the door to listen to them. With Jess gone, the killer comes out from hiding and stabs Barb to death with a unicorn figure. Barb yells out for help, but the carolers' singing drowns out the noise of the attack. Outside in the police car, Officer Jennings starts drinking a beer to pass the time, only to have his throat slashed by the killer, who has snuck out Barb's bedroom window. After killing Jennings, the killer sneaks back into Barb's bedroom. Back downstairs, Jess receives another phone call from the killer, who quotes part of an argument she had with Peter. She wakes up Phyl to tell her that Peter might be the obscene caller. They call Lt. Fuller to tell him this, but then the three conclude it can't be Peter, as he was with Jess during the first phone call. Phyl then goes back to bed, first deciding to lock the windows and doors. While doing so, she sees Barb's door close. Somewhat concerned, she decides to check on Barb. When she enters the room, she finds Barb dead. Before Phyl can exit the room to go and tell Jess, the killer grabs her from behind and gouges her eyes out. He sets Phyl's corpse next to Barb's, and then calls Jess again. Jess picks up the phone, and the killer viciously rambles about where "Billy" put the baby. After he hangs up, the calls are finally traced: they are coming from Mrs. Mac's seperate phone line. When Lt. Fuller finds out, he tells Nash to call Jess and tell her to leave the house. He does so, and when Jess refuses to go without question, he tells the caller is in the house. Panicked, she hangs up the phone and calls out to Phyl and Barb, who do not respond. Not willing to leave her friends behind, she grabs a shotgun and heads upstairs. She finds Barb's bedroom door locked, so she uses the shotgun to bash it open. Inside the room, Jess finds both Barb and Phyl dead, with their mutilated bodies spread across the bed, causing her to scream. This attracts the attention of the killer, who jumps out of nowhere in a Santa uniform, yelling "Merry Christmas, Agnes!". Jess tries to shoot him, but realizes her gun isn't loaded. He then chases her to the point where she hides in the Christmas tree. She eventually sneezes and the killer grabs her by the hair and pulls her out of the Christmas tree. She escapes his grip and locks herself in Mrs. Mac's fruit cellar. Realizing she is safe for now, she heads into the cellar and hides behind a rusty pipe. She looks at the fogged-up window, and sees shadows of a man. The man looks down and is revealed to be Peter. He sees how scared Jess is and breaks into the cellar. He approaches her in a strange way as the camera name into Jess's eyes. The film then cuts outside and the police have arrived. Lt. Fuller approaches Jennings's car and finds his blood-splattered corpse. He then hears Jess screaming. Him and Sgt. Nash enter the broken basement window. They find Peter and Jess: Peter has had his head impaled on a pipe on the wall, and Jess is unconscious right next to him. The film cuts to 2 hours later: Jess is in bed, still unconscious,

It is also revealed that Clair and Mrs. Mac, as well as the taxi driver, are nowhere to be found, revealing they neglected to look in the attic. The film ends with Jess screaming as he picks her up and drags her into the living room, where he impales at the top of the star on the christmas tree. Jess quickly dies, and the film ends with Chris looking attic the christmas tree singing "Jingle Bells".
