Today, the 2nd film in the Star Wars new trilogy films wrapped principal photography as director Rian Johnson announced via his social media channels. “Final slate of the final shot.” Johnson added with an accompanying short video where he added that “VIII is officially wrapped. Thanks to the best cast and crew in the galaxy, and thanks to the fans for all the love and support through the whole process. Cannot wait to put it together and share it with you all!”
As many of you already know after last week’s Star Wars Celebration in London, Episode VIII is the first Star Wars film to pick up directly after the events of The Force Awakens. Production on VIII picked up right after that iconic ending to VII that showed Rey (Daisy Ridley) offering up Luke Skywalker’s (Mark Hamill) long-lost lightsaber from Episode V aka The Empire Strikes Back.
The film stars returning cast members Ridley, Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis. New cast members will include Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro, Academy Award nominee Laura Dern, and talented newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.
Star Wars: Episode VIII is set to hit theaters on December 15, 2017.
