The Hall of Famer will join former teammates including Nicklas Lidstrom, Brendan Shanahan, Sergei Fedorov, Igor Larionov, Vyacheslav Kozlov and Chris Chelios, plus Toronto Maple Leafs greats Mats Sundin, Wendel Clark, and Darryl Sittler among others participating in the event.
Since Detroit and Toronto are such storied franchises, there will be a double header of alumni games on Dec. 31 at Comerica Park just one day prior to the 2014 Winter Classic, which takes place at Michigan Stadium.
Yzerman is the longest-serving captain in NHL history and registered 1,755 points (692 goals, 1,063) in 1,514 career regular season games.
The 48-year-old retired from pro hockey in 2006 after 22 seasons in the NHL, all spent with the Red Wings.
He is currently the general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning and will help assemble Team Canada for the upcoming Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.
