La Baume Holiday Park
Think palm fringed pools, think hot summer days and warm balmy evenings and you’re there, yes, the French Riviera. La Baume, Frejus in Southern France is a lively family oriented camp site. The great family facilities and the allure of nearby luxury resorts such as Cannes make this site something quite different for your holiday.
The warm Riviera temperatures really lend themselves to roughing it under canvas except for the fact that you could hardly call the tents at St Baume “rough”. Two or three bedroomed tents, that all will have newly fitted internal canvasses for 2012 will keep you as close to nature as you can be when you have a roof over your head.
Chalet accommodation is made up of an almost bewildering list. Choose between three bedrooms sleeping up to eight, thee bedroomed two bathroomed loft style chalet with an extra mezzanine that makes a great play area(phew), a simpler two bedroomed apartment for families of 4 and several options in between. Whichever you choose they come with all the mod cons (modern conveniences as my dear old Mum would say) and that includes oven, grill, gas hob, and fridge freezer. How mod is that! Additional essentials such as hairdryers and stereo iPod docs are also included.
Given that you are in the south of France why not make the most of those warm summer evenings by picking a chalet with an outside terrace. Great for a refreshing beer whilst watching the little ones play in the evening sun. Sorted!
Facilities & Activities at La Baume
There is a bewildering array of activities but perhaps best of all are the children’s clubs. There are five different clubs aimed at all ages between, 4 and 17. Activities such as Join the Circus, Sports Saturday, Leo’s Pirate Party and Extreme Halloween (to name but a few) begin to give you an idea of the sheer range of things to keep the little ones amused. Perhaps worth mentioning is Base Club. Aimed at 12 – 17 year olds and being a strictly no parent zone, such events as Shipwrecked and Pizza evenings are well supervised and designed to please those most difficult to please!
In all that heat you’ll need to keep cool in the pool (oh – a poet and I don’t know it). There is an outdoor complex consisting of two large pools with sun loungers and a four lane water slide. The second pool is more a complex of smaller ones with their own slides. There are also two covered pools with slides, a steam room (not in the pool silly) and a Jacuzzi . If that’s not enough you can always hit the beaches that French Riviera is so famous for.
Away from the pools there are just oodles (great word eh?) of other activities. Tennis, table tennis, footie, badders (badminton – come on keep up), basketball, volley ball, skateboarding, archery, quad biking and abseiling (bet those two got the kids attention didn’t they) the list really is very extensive.
Outside of the site there are also loads of things to do, places to go and people to see. Don’t forget the French Riviera is famed for it’s A list celebrities so why not get your OK! Magazine and head to nearby Cannes (23 miles) and St Tropez (22miles) for some celebrity spotting. When you include the activities that are available locally, off site, you may well need to stay the entire summer to fit them all in. Just beyond Cannes lies Antibes with what is said to be the best aquarium complex in Europe. For something totally different check out the limestone caves at St Valleir de Thiey. Why not take in a a guided tour round beautiful limestone caves. Lasting about an hour don’t think off damp smelly dark places these cave excursions are well lit and you’ll get to see some really stunning underground scenery.
So, having exhausted the kids for all day you need to think about feeding them. The on-site supermarket is well stocked and contains some familiar Brit products as well as French ones for the more adventurous. Alongside the self catering facilities the camp site has a number of foodie options to free you from the cooker! The on-site snack bar serves the usual array of magnets for children (you guessed it, burgers, pizzas, chicken, fries and even French crepes) so lunch and snacks are well taken care of. Evenings will see you heading for the lovely traditional restaurant with its own outdoor terrace serving traditional regional specialities.
If, after all that activity during the day you’ve still got excess energy then head out for the evening bar and disco and just as you’d expect one disco isn’t enough for St Baume. Between March and September there are three regular discos for children, families and adults so no one has to get embarrassed by Dad doing a John Travolta (well, only Mum, poor thing).
