Auburn Senior Jacob Dean Take on The White House

Auburn University senior Jacob Dean is spending his last semester much differently than most soon-to-be graduates. While most seniors are going to class, partying on spring break and trying to avoid the imminent senioritis, Dean is taking on the White House. Dean is a White House intern for the Department of Intergovernmental Affairs during the 2014 spring semester. He is a political science and history major with the hopes of attending law school. Dean attributes his success in obtaining the internship to the experience he gained from his involvement in Auburn organizations. Dean served on the Student Government Association as a senator all four years of college, the last as Pro Tempore. In addition, Dean was a member of Lobby Board, Student Eminent Society, College Democrats and Omicron Delta Kappa. “It’s so important to take advantage of all the opportunities at Auburn,” Dean said. “There are so many organizations that really help you to make connections and gain experience in whatever you’re studying. As a political science major I knew my involvement in SGA would benefit my future.” Due to White House security measures, Dean was unable to comment on specifics of his internship.Hannah Dean, political science major at Auburn, shares her excitement in her brother’s accomplishments. “I am so proud of Jacob for everything he’s done,” says Hannah. “He’s been a great role model to our sister Mary Kathryn and me. I chose to go into political science after seeing how passionate he was about it. Seeing all of his hard work paying off is so rewarding.” Hannah also serves on SGA as Vice President for the College of Liberal Arts. When asked about his choice to study political science Dean says he has always held an interest in politics. “I’ve always enjoyed debating issues,” Dean said. “I understand not everyone thinks alike on certain issues and I love to explore other people’s reasoning behind their opinions. I’ve always been interested in the public school system in particular so I’m very passionate about education programs.” Dean shares that he would like to serve as a school superintendent one day. He has accepted a position with Teach for America and looks forward to what lies ahead in his promising future.Join the Auburn Family! Enroll at Auburn. Please visit the Future Students page.
