Hey Auburn: Meet Globe

Auburn Abroad is continuing a new tradition with a traveling globe that will follow Auburn students on their study abroad adventures around the world. Globe’s travels will be documented in pictures on Twitter using the #GlobeAbroad hashtag.Globe was introduced as the Auburn Abroad sidekick in June 2013. That summer, he travelled to Europe with Auburn Abroad Coordinators Abbie Naglosky and Korbin Dimmick. “We’re hoping that Globe becomes more popular with students in future years,” said Dimmick. “It’s a simple way of showing the Auburn community exactly how far the spirit of this family can go around the world, and it’s a fun way to let the world know who we are.” Globe started his journey in Navarra, Spain on a trip with Dimmick. “Globe accompanied me on my travels to Pamplona and Madrid, Spain as well as London, Birmingham and Wales in the UK,” said Dimmick. “I was visiting a summer program in Pamplona and an Exchange program in Birmingham as part of the International Risk Assessment procedures of our office. “ After visiting Auburn Abroad’s program in Pamplona, Globe and Dimmick travelled to Spain’s capital and largest city, Madrid, and met other Auburn Family members with a “War Eagle” along the way. “I was at one of my favorite places in Madrid, the Plaza de Cibeles, which is a stunning white marble building behind a large intersection with a gorgeous fountain in the middle, and I was taking a picture of Globe with the Palacio in the background,” said Dimmick. “It was amazing how a small thing like Globe made an Auburn connection in another country.” Globe made his way through the United Kingdom, stopping in Wales and then a quick trip in London Town before heading across the Channel to France. With Naglosky, Globe traveled to his first UNESCO World Heritage Site Lyon, France. There he met a group of Auburn students studying abroad at Auburn Abroad’s exchange partner in Lyon, Ecole Superieure pour le Development Economique et Sociel (ESDES). Globe ended his summer vacation in Paris, France after touring the United Nations location in Geneva, Switzerland. Globe was lucky enough to explore the city of lights with the Auburn Liberal Arts in Paris program where he got to visit a few of the worlds most exquisite museums in the world including the Musee d’Orsay on the left bank of the Seine. During Spring Break 2014, Globe will be traveling with a few different student groups to Peru and Ireland. “Globe can be camera shy, but we’re hoping to see Globe in some amazing places in those countries,” said Dimmick.  Each semester, Auburn Abroad holds pre-departure orientation sessions for students who are studying abroad during the following semester. This year, Globe will be formally introduced and then sent with all students who are willing to keep him as their travel buddy. “Globe is ready and willing to go anywhere in the world,” said Dimmick. For more information on Globe, follow @auburnabroad on Twitter or check their Facebook Page.
