The time is just around the corner for the Roaring Twenties Bash, which will be held at a secret ‘speak easy,’ disguised as “Thee Garage” on Saturday night October 8.

Many women in town are ahead of the game and have their 20’s ensemble together.

Here are a few tips to pull an outfit together for that gent in your life. The twenties look is varied for both men and women. The looks will vary depending on how formal or casual you want to go.

The well dressed man of the 1920’s could be seen decked out in a three piece black tuxedo accessorized with a bow tie, top hat, white gloves, patent leather shoes and even a fancy walking stick.

Many ‘speak easy’ prohibition bars had a few gangster types ‘taking care of business’ for the Big Boss. They were sporting the Al Capone look. Pin striped suits or solid suits in navy or black that had high rise classic pants with cuffs. They were often held up with suspenders. A white shirt with a colorful wide tie, and a pocket square. *The pocket square wasn’t usually of the same fabric, but matched by picking up a color out of the fabric used in the tie.

Accessories varied from the center dent fedora hat, two-toned lace up shoes to the type of violin case carried.

Of course the violins varied too. A Thompson machine gun played a melody that introduced quite a different tune. The gangsters often referred to their loudest accessory as the “Chicago Typewriter”.

A businessman of the day donned a black or brown three-piece tweed or pin striped suit, classy round bowler hat or a panama straw hat.  They accessorized with a bright, never bland, colored bow tie or a wide striped or paisley tie. A timepiece dangled out of their front vest pocket.

Of course college kids to golfers spent an occasion night out. Their sporty look might be the tweed knicker pants, sweater or sweater vest and a classy straw Panama hat or newsboy cap.

However you choose to rock that 1920’s look, come out to enjoy a fun night as our community steps back in time.
