A/N: Hey, it totally slipped my mind but I forgot to add in an author’s note in my previous chapter after going on hiatus for such a long time. I’ve decided to post this chapter early to thank everyone who’s stuck around for so long. I’ve been pretty busy with university and life in general that I haven’t had the time to write. This chapter will be a flashback chapter and hence why everything is in italics.

Chapter 7

The blonde was exhausted from putting on this facade; she decided to explore her best friend’s mansion a little bit more and ended up in the wine cellar. She noticed a girl; probably a few years older than her browsing through the bottles of expensive-looking wine.

Amy tried to be as quiet as possible not wanting to alarm the other girl but she heard her anyways and they both gave each other an awkward smile. The kind of smile you typically give when you’re caught in an awkward situation.

The brunette with purple streaks in her hair tried to break the tension first; “hey~”

Amy simply waved shyly, not really knowing what the right response was.

“Don’t worry, I’m not here to steal anything.” the brunette confessed as she looked back and forth between Amy and the wine bottles in her hand.

Amy simply nodded her head, unsure of what to make out of this situation. I mean would any sane person say that they were stealing from somebody else? Probably not, that was the logical conclusion Amy gathered.

“No. Really. Not stealing anything here, I’m actually here to pick out some wine for my dad.” the brunette explained.

That makes perfect sense right? Picking out some wine for your dad in someone else’s wine cellar? Yea, that happened all the time in Amy’s world. It was just another daily occurrence!

“Umm…” Amy hesitated, not knowing what to say.

“For your dad?” questioned Amy.

“Ah yea, the owner of this place?” the brunette with purple streaks responded back.

Amy started to fit the missing pieces to the puzzle together now, Liam mentioned he had an adopted sister once and that she was sent to boarding school overseas. I guess Liam forgot to fill her in that she’s back now.

“Ah, you must be Liam’s sister.” commented Amy, politely smiling.

“Aha, and you must be Amy, right?” inquired the brunette.

Amy looks at her puzzled, wondering how she came to that conclusion. The brunette notices Amy’s puzzled look and goes on to clarify.

“Liam writes about you guys a lot in his letters, yea boarding school doesn’t really like the concept of smartphones or anything of the 21st century really.”

“By you guys, you mean Shane and I?” Amy asked for clarification.

The brunette simply nodded and smiled at Amy once again, “oh, I’m Reagan by the way.”

Amy was not entirely sure what it was she was feeling at that exact moment but she liked hearing the sound of Reagan’s voice and finally having a name to that face was a bonus.

“So~ why are you here?” Reagan looked at her quizzically, as if she was asking why she was not out there mingling with everyone else.

“Umm…well~ you see….party’s aren’t really my thing, Liam and Shane are more of the social butterflies; I just tag along. Unfortunately, it didn’t seem like I could avoid conversation anywhere in this household so I just found the most secluded area and entered this room instead…” explained Amy, mumbling and stammering on certain words.

Reagan gives her a look of approval and sympathy; as someone who hated these kinds of events she knew all too well what it felt like.

“Wait, why aren’t you outside?” it hits Amy, why isn’t the daughter of the hosts outside entertaining the guests?

“Busted.” Reagan sticks her tongue out slightly and puts her hands behind her back like a toddler getting caught having an extra slice of cake.

“I wasn’t actually looking at wine bottles for my dad…” Amy knew it, she knew it all along; the dining hall was stock full of champagne and wine bottles.

“You’re just avoiding the party….like….like I am.” Amy answered her own question, the brunette simply nodded and gave Amy a small smile.

Just then, they both heard the sound of the cellar door opening to reveal Liam. Liam sees both his sister and Amy together in the cellar and smiles before sighing.

“Reagan, mum and dad are not looking too pleased that their daughter’s missing out on this event.” he warned.

“Haha…” Reagan awkwardly laughs.

“And Amy, please just step outside and at least talk to Shane or something.” pleaded Liam.

“Oh, and I see you’ve met my sister, Reagan!” beamed Liam.

“Sister, Amy. Amy, sister.” he briefly introduced the both of them to each other.

“We’ve already said our introductions earlier.” Reagan responded.

“Well, yea, enough of pleasantries. Let’s go.” Liam tries to hurry his sister along and leaves but not before telling the brunette that he’ll be waiting for her outside.

“Looks like that’s my cue to go blondie.” Reagan announces.

“Wanna join me out into the lion’s den?” asked Reagan, mocking the whole situation.

“It would be my pleasure.” Amy chuckled a little at Reagan’s sense of humour. It was a breath of fresh air really.

They stepped out of the wine cellar and Amy quickly made herself scarce as soon as she spotted Shane; not wanting to mingle with anyone else and she knew she’d have to do that with Liam’s parents if she tagged along with Reagan.

Liam was desperately trying to get his sister to hurry and go to where mum and dad were, they seemed to be in an alright mood thus far.

“You never told me she was cute.” commented Reagan under her breath.

“Who?” Liam asked; his mind still set on the task at hand.

“Amy, goofball.”

“Oh, yea. Wait, what?” Liam raises his eyebrows at his sister; questioning her very motives.

“Please don’t cause any trouble, sis.” warns Liam.

“Not causing anything here, lil’ bro. I just thought it would’ve been nice if you shared the information that your best friend was cute.”

“I don’t see her that way.” Liam simply brushed it off; he’s never thought of Amy that way before. She was his best friend and so was Shane.

“Yea, right~”

“No, really. I’m not her type.” Liam simply stated, Reagan’s mouth formed an o shape and she got what her brother was hinting at. She gave him a smirk and he knew all too well what that meant.

“Oh god, please no, no, Amy’s off limits.” warned Liam.

“Why?”

“Well~ because….just because.” Liam couldn’t think up of a real explanation.

“Whatever you say lil’ bro, whatever you say.” Reagan simply smiled at her brother before following him to where their parents were at.

Meanwhile, in another part of the mansion; near where all the food was being served. Amy was filling her plate up with heaps of prawn, mountains of prawns really. Amy likes prawns, probably not as much as she loves doughnuts though. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any doughnuts so she opted for the next best option available.

Amy pulled Shane aside who seemed to be having a pretty swell time indeed. Shane could always adapt to any environment; especially when it’s a party. He was in his element, right here and now and Amy needed Shane’s advice.

“You’ve got to help me.” Amy muttered under her breath.

Shane awkwardly smiled at the people he was talking to before he was whizzed away by Amy.

“Spill.”

“Liam’s sister.”

“You met her?”

The blonde simply nodded, not before taking another bite of one of the prawns on her plate.

“So~ how’s she like?” inquired Shane very curious as to what Liam’s sister was like.

“She…she’s nice…” mumbled Amy.

“Nice as in cute or nice as in, oh you’re nice just like your brother?” questioned Shane.

“She…she’s nice…” stammered Amy, looking at her other best friend

“You like her~” teased Shane with a knowing look.

“I honestly have no clue how I feel about Reagan at the moment but all I know is that she’s nice and I want to get to know her better.” Amy sighed before staring down at her feet.

“What’s wrong?” asked Shane with a concerned expression.

Amy simply shrugged her shoulders, she had this gut feeling that she was about to caught in this complicated web. Something in her gut was telling her that it most possibly would be a mistake to go to where Liam and Reagan are at right now. Her heart was telling her other ways cliche, made her slowly gravitate towards where the Bookers were standing.

Amy scooted closer to Liam and tapped him on his shoulder, he turned around and smiled politely. She could tell he just wanted to get away from here, far away as possible; probably go to some bar to pickup some girls; despite being underaged. Shane and Liam always had a full-proof system, Shane went for the gay best friend and Liam went for the ladies; Amy, well…she stayed at home and watched Netflix. Although, there were times when she tagged along and had a pretty entertaining night watching her two best friends work the field. Or at times when Liam’s date was oddly more into her than they were into him. Which till this day, baffles her a little; she’s not exactly good with words or compliments; much less know how to flirt with anyone for that matter.

“Hi Amy.” the Booker parents politely greeted her.

“Have you met my daughter, Reagan. She just came back.” Liam and Reagan’s mum asked.

“I have actually, ma’am.”

“Reagan, be polite and entertain our guests.” reminded her mum.

Reagan nodded before looking at Amy and giving her a small smile, which sent tiny little butterflies to Amy’s stomach.

“How’s school been?” their dad asked; this time round.

“Same as usual, Mr. Booker.” Amy politely answered; she felt mentally exhausted from these meaningless pleasantries. They just weren’t her.

“Still at the top of the school, I presume.” commented Mr. Booker.

Amy nodded awkwardly whilst smiling, “sometimes I wish you could give just some of that intelligence to Liam over here.”

Liam did not like being compared and neither did he like when his parents put him down for his efforts in the arts.

“Liam’s great with arts, he just won this annual art competition.” Amy reminded, Liam gave Amy a small smile; knowing that she always had his back.

“Congratulations, lil’ bro~” Reagan hugged Liam, beaming with delight and Liam mouthed a thank you.

“It’s all pointless anyways, one day you both will have to take over the company; there’s no time to be playing around with clay and wood and trivial things like that.” commented Mr. Booker.

Liam started clenching his fists, he never got along with his parents especially not after he told them he wanted to be an artist.

“Amy, if you’ll excuse us, we have guests to entertain.” Mr. Booker excused himself along with Mrs. Booker.

“Oh and Reagan, darling. Please get rid of those horrendous purple streaks. That is not how a lady is supposed to look like.” reprimanded Mrs. Booker.

“Lovely to see you again, Amy and bring Shane along to meet us as well next time.” Mrs. Booker reminded before making her exit.

The three of them heaved a sigh of relief, Amy and Reagan both looked at each other. The awkward tension still kind of lingering in the air. Liam noticed the look the both of them were giving to each other and he knew he was going to be in trouble in the near future.

“Do you guys wanna ditch this place?” asked Reagan, looking at both Amy and Liam.

The two teenagers simply nodded, “text Shane and tell him to meet us out back.” Liam informed before the three of them started slowly creeping out the back before anyone noticed. Most of them were too absorbed in that world to even notice if a couple of teenagers left the premises.

They waited for Shane out the back and it took him an awfully longer time than expected.

“Finally, what took you so long?” asked Liam worriedly.

“Your parents.” Liam just sighed before they all got round to Reagan’s jeep.

“Wow.” commented Shane before hopping in the back with Liam; he gave Amy a wink and let her sit in the front.

“So where do you guys normally go?” asked Reagan, looking at the two of them sitting in the back.

Liam and Shane smirked and Amy just rolls her eyes knowing all too well where they’d pick. Reagan drove out of the mansion and out into the city.

“Let the fun begin!” exclaimed Shane.

A few moments later, they arrived at the bar and it was packed as usual. Reagan and Amy decided to find a seat while Liam and Shane went on to do their usual routine.

“What happens here?” inquired Reagan, curious since she hasn’t seen her little brother in person in such a long time.

“Oh the usual.” Amy replied nonchalantly.

“Liam picks up the girl and Shane goes for their gay best friend. It’s a full-proof plan they have, it’s gotten them a date every single time.” Amy explained, not really interested in what her two best friends were up to.

“What about you?” inquired Reagan.

“What about me?” the blonde asked, knowing where this conversation was leaning towards.

“Do you get dates too?”

“I’m more of a stay-at-home kind of girl.” the blonde explained, Reagan gave Amy a small smile and simply nodded; understanding what she meant.

“Like Netflix and chill?” the brunette asked, Amy simply nodded in agreement. “Yea something like that…” as she tries to not look into Reagan’s deep brown orbs.

Meanwhile, Shane and Liam had just finish sweet talking their way; well Liam did. Shane had other means of getting what he wanted. They both returned with their respective dates for the night, they both smiled politely at Amy and Reagan.

“Who are they?” asked Liam’s date, almost as if she was offended that there were other women there.

“That’s my sister, Reagan.” Liam introduces his date to his sister.

“And that’s my other best friend, Amy.” Liam looks at the blonde. You could tell his date was nervous at the fact that Liam had another best friend and a female one at that.

“She bats for the other team.” Liam reassures; he knew just then and there that he was most probably not going to bring her home tonight. She was acting a bit too clingy for his liking especially after that brief display of jealousy.

Shane’s date on the other hand, beamed at the two of them and asked in a teasing manner. “Are we interrupting YOUR date?”

The blonde felt her cheeks slowly turning red and the brunette simply smiled politely, “no, we just met earlier at our parent’s house gathering.” explained Reagan.

Shane took a look at his other best friend and noticed how she became awfully quiet, a lot more than usual.

“Don’t you think they make a cute couple?” asked Shane’s date.

Liam turned his head and almost spitted his drink out, “w-w-what?” he turned his attention towards Shane and his date.

“Your sister and Amy.” Shane pointed out.

“No~” protested Liam.

“I think they make a cute couple.” commented Liam’s date this time round.

“No, sis; you better not get any ideas now.” warned Liam.

“I know~ Amy’s off limits.” Reagan rolls her eyes and Liam knows all too well that Reagan will get what she wants, eventually.

“Miss brainiac and I are going to go to the bar to get a drink. I’ll leave you four alone; have fun.” Reagan announced before she grabbed Amy by the hand and dragged her along with her. Amy awkwardly waved goodbye before nearly tumbling over her own two feet.

“Cute.” commented Shane’s date.

“She’s finally leaving the nest.” sighed Shane, with so much pride and joy.

“Shane, you never told me your other best friend was this cute; I so want to doll her up now.” he clapped his hands together, almost as if he had a brilliant idea.

“I mean, you are on a date with ME, remember?” reminded Shane.

“Haha, no need to get jealous.” he teased Shane again, Shane was always a dominant one and he didn’t like losing this power battle.

Meanwhile, at the bar.

“One vodka cranberry and…” Reagan looks at Amy before finishing her sentence.

“Just coke, would be fine.” Amy replies. The bartender takes Reagan’s cash and gives her back some change. She gives Reagan her vodka cranberry and gives Amy her glass of coke not before giving Amy a smile and not the polite kind of your my customer kind of smile.

“I think she likes you.” Reagan states as a matter of fact.

Amy shakes her head, knowing that a competent older woman like the bartender could not possibly be attracted to her. They both decided to leave them on their dates for the time being and just talked and got to know each other better. After quite some time alone, Amy notices Shane walking towards them and Liam right behind. They sat on the stools and saw the dramatic exit that Shane’s date did but unfortunately, struggled to remember that you had to push the door and not pull it. They snickered a little bit at his mishap and they felt slightly bad but it was just harmless fun after all.

“That bad, huh?” Reagan asked.

“She was way too clingy for my tastes.” commented Liam.

“What about you?” asked Amy.

“Too dramatic.”

“Aren’t you the drama queen?” reminded Amy.

“Well~ it’ll be pointless to be dating another version of moi. I’m too fabulous as it is.” reminded Shane and the three of them broke into laughter. They all had a fun night together and it was getting late, Reagan offered to drive the both of them home and Liam said that he didn’t want to go home tonight and that he’d be sleeping at Shane’s.

Amy, Reagan and Liam had already walked out the door and Shane was just about to follow suit when he heard the bartender calling him.

“Can I help you?” asked Shane, eyeing the bartender; cute, pixie cut; but she manages to pull it off.

“Can you give this to your friend?” she asks.

Shane smiles politely at her before turning around and rolling his eyes; as always, Liam gets to go home with someone. He looks at the note in his hand and stares at it before unfolding it, reading what it says.

Hey, blondie. I think we should maybe grab coffee some other time. My treat? :-) Call me xxxx-xxx-xxx

Shane smiles at the note, he was so going to tease Amy about it later. She was growing up so fast and he was feeling like a proud papa.

“What took you so long?” asked Amy, annoyed.

“Don’t look at me honey, that cute bartender wanted me to give you something.” Shane smirked knowingly.

Amy looks at Shane confused, Reagan very much knows what’s going on right now.

“You mean the one with the pixie cut?” Liam inquires, Shane simply nods.

“Yea she’s cute.” commented Liam. “So what did she want with Amy?” asked Liam.

“She wanted me to give you this.” Shane stated before handing the note to Amy. Amy opened the note and read it.

Reagan and Liam were crowding around her and all smiled when they realised what had just happened. Amy actually managed to pick someone up tonight and that was something that didn’t usually happened a lot. Not when she’s at home watching documentaries on Netflix half the time.

“So~ are you going to call her?” Shane asked.

“Why would I?” Amy answers, baffled as to why she would call a complete stranger.

“Told you she was into you.” Reagan stated.

“Come on~ Aimes, she’s cute and she’s totally into you.” begged Shane, really wanting to dress Amy up for a date. Liam never needed his help and he really wanted to get the chance to doll her up a bit.

Amy simply shakes her head, insistent that she would not be going on this coffee ‘date’ with a random stranger.

“Now, will you back off?” mutters Liam under his breath to his older sister.

“Oh lil’ bro, I am only just about to begin.” Reagan teases before she hops back into her jeep and calls for the three musketeers to start moving their arses, otherwise, they’d have to walk back home themselves.

After dropping Shane and Liam off at Shane’s house, Reagan drops Amy off at her place. It was getting kind of late and the blonde was hoping her mum wouldn’t find her sneaking in so late at night. Although, she did tell her that she would be out late; she just didn’t know how late.

“So~ I guess this is good night?” Amy awkwardly tries to say goodbye as she opens the door and steps out of Reagan’s jeep.

Reagan follows suit and has the blonde leaning against the car door, Amy was definitely not used to this close proximity. Especially when it’s someone she’s just met, today; as a matter of fact.

“Do you want me to come up or do you want me to leave.” Reagan looks into Amy’s eyes, her lips curving upwards into a small smile. Amy stood there at lost for words, staring into Reagan’s dark brown orbs.

“I-err-I…” Amy stumbled to find the right words to say.

The older girl stares at the blonde’s eyes even more and not before long she’s staring at her lips and Amy knew, just there and then that this moment right here would change her life. For better or worse, she just didn’t know it yet.

The brunette leaned in and gave a peck on the blonde’s lips, Amy relish in the taste of Reagan’s caramel flavoured lips. The first time Amy kissed someone, it was with a boy and she pretty much didn’t enjoy it one bit. The second time Amy kisses someone, it was a mere accident and neither Liam nor her enjoyed it, in fact they’d both just pretty much want to wipe it from their memories. The third time Amy kisses someone, she’s feeling butterflies in her stomach and what started off as an innocent peck slowly turns into something a lot more intimate.

And as the older brunette wraps her arms around Amy’s waist and she loops her arms around the older girl’s neck. She knew right then and there that this woman right here was going to make her really happy.
