On 22 October 2015, Bangkok Jam hosted a Thai Street Food Carnival, Thai’Riffic Food Fest, at the Marina Square outlet. A first of its kind for Bangkok Jam, in fact for any other restaurants, we saw the store transformed into a mini Bangkok food street, which for me was really quite fascinating!

Exclusive Bangkok Jam merchandises such as coasters and tote bags- such as the one I was holding, used only in-house were sold on that day after constant demands from patrons on their wish to purchase.

This wonderful event was opened to the public and media alike and saw many walk-ins.

I personally really loved the roving crowd gathered that night and that’s not all, the thoughtful peeps behind Bangkok Jam even go way out to entertain customers with live performances from The Lost Box, an up-and-coming acoustic band in Singapore.

The happy joyful atmosphere lingered and many customers were happily tucking in to such a rare and special dining concept.

Celebrating the diversity of Thai street food, we had a great time savouring the tastes and flavours of iconic street food items, especially curated by Chef De Cuisine, Thongloy Wilaiwan.

Unfortunately it happened for one day only and I am sorry if you missed this, but I promise if Bangkok Jam ever hosts such wonderful carnival again, I will made advanced announcements via my IG.

Here's a recap on the tantalising ‘street food’ we had at  Thai’Riffic.

#FOODPORN ~

What I absolutely adored was the Ai Tim Ma Praw (Coconut Shell Ice Cream). Coconut ice-cream big love max!!

With generous toppings distinctively Thai such as roasted peanuts, dried mango, jack fruit slices, nata de coco, lord chong (green chendol stripes)! It was so good I felt almost transported back to the streets of Chatuchak, that plus the fact I was missing the coconut shell ice cream so much~~~

What goes on in the preparation...

In need of thirst quenchers? Beers available

... And we saw this very interesting drink named" Butterfly Pea Lime"??!!

Conclusion?

Butterfly Pea Lime tasted like a cooling herbal tea and similar to Chin Chow ( grass jelly) drink. On the right, Thai Milk Tea..

Was so delighted to see Luk Chup!! Luk Chup is a thai sweet candy which in translation literally means small object (look) in coating (chup). Playfully molded into all sorts of vegetables and fruits shapes, these colorful sweets are enclosed with green mung beans and are so addictive to pop into!

So pretty right

Have some Thai style iced Popsicle won’t you? Different flavors of Popsicle were available for guests to try including Green Apple, Thai Iced Milk Tea and Rose Bandung.

And one of my favourites- Khanom Buang !! Crispy crepes, orignating from the floating markets of thailand. These yummies were fresh from the stoves filled with white egg yolk cream and topped with sweet or savory  yellow egg yolk shreds aka fios de ovos ( of Portuguese origin!). Missed this thai traditional sweet snack.

We had other finger snacks such as Tod Man Pla (Thai Fish Cakes), Peek Gai Tod (Fried Chicken Mid Joints with Thai Fish Sauce Marinade). Can't had enough and went for 2 helpings thereafter!

Love the Pandan Leaf Chicken actually. Tasty and tender~

Basically the mid wings were crispy and I am not too particular on the tenderness after all it was the taste that appeals.

Grilled chicken with Lettuce Wrap

Popiah Tod (Deep-fried Spring Rolls).

Patrons were also treated to live demo of Thai Chefs’ making of their signature Spicy Mango and Papaya Salads live stations.

Kuey Teow Reua aka Thai style dried Beef and Pork Boat Noodles made famous by the boat noodles shops at Victory Monument (which sadly I missed the chance to visit when in Bangkok).

Ingredients behind the concoction.

Hot Tom Yum Soup, slurpee hot and spicy but shiok!

Here's Elgena and I saying bye!!

Hoping against hope that the Bangkok Jam’s version of pop-up Thai street food carnival will be able to return soon! It was fun an impromptu…Perhaps not too often else it will lose the sense of ‘freshness’.

Till then and thanks for reading!

Much love to the peeps behind Creative Eateries, thank you, we had fun at the Thai fest!
