New paintings by Brooklyn-based artist Brad Kunkle using his signature gilded technique. After working exclusively in oil earlier in his career, he became interested in the possibilities of adding gold and silver leaf to his paintings, taking inspiration from Gustav Klimt. The result are works whose surfaces seem to emit their own radiance and that shimmer and shift with the light. These paintings have elements, including figures, that emerge and disappear into the silver-leafed backgrounds depending on the viewer’s perspective
On view at Arcadia Contemporary through December 3.
