This week found us on the mend and rolling right along with our routines. Although Bethany did have one bad day of grouchy behavior, to the point of even swatting at her aide, Kristin, for the most part she had a really happy and productive week!

The plan on the grouchy day was for Bethany to go swimming with Kristin while Malcolm and I looked for cars, but her behavior was so naughty that Kristin didn’t feel like she should risk it and decided not to take her. However, the next day, Bethany woke up happy and chipper and was able to go swimming that time while Malcolm and I looked for cars again!! Bethany has even been very actively asking to do school work this week! She has especially been enjoying working on Language Arts with her dot paints and sharpening her critical thinking skills by completing a few cut and paste activities from her Rod and Staff, Just Thinking and Choosing work book.

We did have some bad news, though it was not really unexpected. My red van finally and totally bit the dust! It would not pass inspection without spending about $2000 dollars in repairs and even the inspector told us that the car wasn’t worth it. In fact, he didn’t even charge us for the inspection, he felt so bad!

We still have Malcolm’s little green Fiesta, but it causes me so much pain and exhaustion just getting in and out of it, that I can hardly stand it. Driving it is even worse!

Since we can’t afford two car payments we are going to trade in both old cars for one newer car that we can both drive comfortably. I am not really looking forward to the isolation that being a one car family again will cause the kids and I though.

So naturally, Malcolm and I began looking for cars again, only much more seriously this time!! I am in love with the 2015 new Honda CRV that we test drove! It was the perfect height and had the perfect amount of leg room for me to just back onto the seat and then pivot my legs in. It perfectly accommodated my spinal and mobility challenges. It was the easiest and most comfortable car for me to get into and out of with the least bodily contortions and pain! But…it was quite a bit out of our price range.

There was a 2011 CRV in our price range which we are considering. It’s older than our Fiesta though, but it actually does have significantly less mileage accumulated on it and Hondas are apparently very sturdy cars! We are also considering a 2013 Dodge Journey. (Some of you may remember that I liked the Journey the last time we went looking for cars.) It was not as comfortable getting in and out of it as the CRV though.

We are still deciding, but I really want the car I can’t have…the 2015 CRV!! Malcolm thinks I should just get it anyway, but I can’t help but worry that the payment would cause us to not be able to pay other more important bills like heating our house this winter!! It’s kind of depressing, actually.
