Well the summer is in full swing and whether you are about to visit Marbella, thinking of it or already here then there is a good chance you will want to visit the beach. If you visit here often then you probably have your favorite but if you are here for the first time or looking for somewhere new to try then here are some recommendations.
Marbella Beaches
Some people may argue this point but the best beaches in the Marbella area tend to be to the East of Marbella on the stretch of coast that goes from Marbella to Cabopino. Here the sand is golden and water a little clearer than other areas of the coast. It is no wonder that Marriott Vacation club chose to set up their exclusive Marbella Beach Resort here and why people love staying there so much
Here are a few to check out
Pinomar – Although the beach here is only 350m wide the sand is golden and inviting. To reach here turn off the N340 at exit Km189 which is only about a 10 minute drive from the centre of Marbella.
El Alicate – One of the popular beaches in Elviria with lots of beach bars and restaurants to choose from. To get here come off at the El Rosario turning on the N340 and then bear right when you see the sign for El Alicate.
Estrella del Mar – This beach is where the hotel Vincci is located and the urbanization Estrella del Mar. Good looking stretch of beach with clear water. To soak up a few rays here take exit 191km off the N340.
Las Chapas – Expect this beach to be very busy in the summer but if you can get a good spot it is a nice place to spend the afternoon. Look for the Las Chapas exit on the N340 then look for the sea.
Cabopino – A big favorite with tourists and locals alike in peak season. Recommended to get their early to park close to beach otherwise there is a little walk and get a nice pitch close to the water. Good beach if you have kids but be careful you don’t stray into the nudist beach that is next to Cabopino with them as you may face a few awkward questions. To get to the beach come off the Cabopino turning from the N340 then do first right as you are come off the roundabout heading towards the Marina.
Away from east Marbella and towards Estepona you will find the beach at Nueva Andalucia or sometimes called las Espigonas after the chiringuito that is located there. With 2 coves this is a great beach for the family plus there is now an inflatable water park located there in the summer.
For more grown up fun there are the beach clubs Mistral and La Sala. To find the beach come off the hotel Guadalpin turning on the N340.
Estepona beaches
If you are staying close to Estepona maybe at the Marriott Playa Andaluza Beach resort there are many beaches on this stretch of the coast which are great with some excellent beach bars. However here 2 we recommend you give a try during your stay.
La Rada beach is the main beach in Estepona town and is large wide beach with plenty or chiringuitos to while away a few hours. It’s also nice to visit in the evening and stroll down the board walk while the sun is setting.
El Christo Beach – If you continue through Estepona town and pass the marina you arrive at El Christo beach. This is a hidden gem that a lot of people who know the coast still haven’t been. The beach has been awarded the blue flag standard and with its cove like shape and shallow water is great for young families. The beach also looks out west so gets sheltered from the winds and is an excellent spot to enjoy the sunsets. Get early because parking close to the beach is limited.
Getting Away from Marbella.
The beaches are great around Marbella but if you fancy a day away then we recommend Tarifa. Located at the southern tip of Spain where the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean meet this is a mecca for water sports such as kitesurfing and windsurfing. Although it is windy here most days the beaches are spectacular and well worth a visit. The drive will take about 90 minutes from Marbella but it is a great place to hang out for a day or night as well.
