All Square D® brand heavy duty safety switches with dc ratings (2- and 3-pole fusible and non-fusible) are Underwriters Laboratories® (UL®) Listed for use on dc applications when properly wired. Additionally:
Heavy duty safety switches are rated for 600 Vdc maximum open circuit voltage
Non-fusible safety switches may carry 100% of the nameplate current rating
Fusible safety switches may carry 80% of nameplate current rating (continuous use)
Heavy duty switches are dc horsepower rated as indicated on the safety switch wiring diagram
Heavy duty switches have a 10,000 amperage dc short-circuit rating unless otherwise stated on the switch wiring diagram
General-Duty Safety Switches
Switches provide a 10K-ampere short-circuit current rating when used with or protected by a Class H fuse.
They have a 100K-ampere short-circuit current rating when used with, or protected by, a Class R cartridge-type fuse with Class R fuse kits (see page 260) installed. Features include visible blades for positive identification that switch is Off, and a quick-make, quick-break operating mechanism. Lugs are suitable for aluminum or copper conductors. Multiple padlock provisions in Off position. Spring-reinforced plated-copper fuse clips. Switches meet UL 98 and meet or exceed NEMA Standard KS1-1990. UL Listed.
Uses: Suitable for use as service entrance equipment. Requires equipment grounding kit; see page 260.
