At approximately 7:01 local time this morning (11:01UTC), an earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter Scale shook the Dominican Republic at a depth of 5 mi (9 km) below sea-level. This Moderate Quake had an epicenter located at 18.5°N, 70.7°W — about 4 mi (7 km) NNE of Azua de Compostela, Dominican Republic/47 mi (76 km) W of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/470 mi (755 km) WNW of Philipsburg, St. Maarten.

The shake was felt by some in the Dominican Republic, but was too far to be felt in the SSS Islands. Additionally, there were no reports of damage or injuries, and there is/was NO threat of a tsunami.
