Winning second ODI in Kotla, New Zealand team is full of confident in the 3rd One Day International of 5-ODIs series on 23 October. PCA stadium in Mohali to host third ODI between India and New Zealand from 13:30 IST as it’s a day night game. Men in Blue won first ODI in Dharamsala but lost last game in Delhi. So IND will look to take 2-1 lead in the PayTm series by winning third match on Sunday.
Preview
Tourist New Zealand would be thinking that finally they have tasted victory on this 2016 tour of India in the previous match when they registered 6 runs victory in the final. They were threatened in the test series by 3-0 and in the first ODI, faced big lose. But Blackcaps hold their nerves and play well in second ODI to restrict Indian batting line-up from chasing 243 runs target to level series 1-1.
However it is not easy for Kiwis to beat India in ODIs as home team is playing really well with fresh bowling attack. Batting has been sensational for Men in Blue and vice-captain Virat Kohli is batting the way he was doing in test cricket. He scored 85 runs in the first One Day of series that helped Indian team to win the match comfortably. However he failed in the Delhi but will make it count in Mohali.
Virat Kohli scored 85 runs in first ODI against New-zealand.
Suresh Raina who missed out from the opening two games in Dharamsala and Delhi due to viral fever, will also be missing Mohali ODI as he is still recovering from fever. BCCI haven’t added any other batsman in the squad, hence we can expect team management to go with Manish Pandey in the middle order just like previous two matches and Kedar Jadhav in the lower middle order.
Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane will be opening for India once again in the second One-Day international. Virat Kohli will be key player again at the top and will bat at number 3. Manish Pandey to bat at 4 meanwhile Hardik Pandya and Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be batting at 5 and 6 positions as per situation of the game
Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Amit Mishra will be key bowlers for MSD in the second match too. Hardik Pandya had great debut in ODI cricket and will look to repeat 3-wicket performance again at Feroz Shah Kotla.
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson will be depending on his batting line-up which has been disappointing him on this tour. As the format changes to 50 over side, Blackcaps had great hopes but top order disappoints again in first 2 ODIs. However skipper Williamson smashed century in the second ODI and became man of the match.
Rest of the players Martin Guptill, Ross Taylor and Latham are the backbone of Kiwis and they have failed in the Dharamsala and Delhi ODIs but team once again be depending on these batting pillers.
Meanwhile all-rounders Corey Anderson and Jimmy Neesham to bat well in the lower middle order along with wicket-keeper batsman Luke Ronchi. Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi and Santner will have to bowl really well to destroy team India’s batting line-up.
