CONTROL ELECTRONICS WITH YOUR MIND?!!!   You may be extremely skeptical while reading this first line, we assure you that this is 100% REAL. In this article we will feature products you can buy for as low as $300, a short history outlaying the technologies, the many uses for these devices and the initial consciousness research it took to make it to this point.

A brain–computer interface (BCI), often called a mind-machine interface (MMI), or sometimes called a direct neural interface or a brain–machine interface (BMI), is a direct communication pathway between the brain and an external device. BCIs are often directed at assisting, augmenting, or repairing human cognitive or sensory-motor functions.

Engineering and Consciousness

The Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research (PEAR) program, which flourished for nearly three decades under the aegis of Princeton University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science, has completed its experimental agenda of studying the interaction of human consciousness with sensitive physical devices, systems, and processes, and developing complementary theoretical models to enable better understanding of the role of consciousness in the establishment of physical reality.

International Consciousness Research Laboratories

ICRL is an international, interdisciplinary, and inter-generational consortium of some 75 members, most of whom have been associated with the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research (PEAR) laboratory at Princeton University as interns or research collaborators over its thirty-year history. Our goal is to extend the work of PEAR into a broader range of inquiry; to encourage a new generation of creative investigators to expand the boundaries of scientific understanding; and to strengthen the foundations of science by reclaiming its spiritual heritage. Ultimately, we seek to integrate the subjective and objective dimensions of human experience into a self-reflective Science of the Subjective.

Coherent consciousness creates order in the world

Subtle interactions link us with each other and the Earth

When human consciousness becomes coherent and synchronized, the behavior of random systems may change. Quantum event based random number generators (RNGs) produce completely unpredictable sequences of zeroes and ones. But when a great event synchronizes the feelings of millions of people, our network of RNGs becomes subtly structured. The probability is less than one in a billion that the effect is due to chance. The evidence suggests an emerging noosphere, or the unifying field of consciousness described by sages in all cultures.

‘BrainGate’ Brain-Machine-Interface takes shape

An implantable, brain-computer interface the size of an aspirin has been clinically tested on humans by American company Cyberkinetics. The ‘BrainGate’ device can provide paralysed or motor-impaired patients a mode of communication through the translation of thought into direct computer control. The technology driving this breakthrough in the Brain-Machine-Interface field has a myriad of potential applications, including the development of human augmentation for military and commercial purposes.

BrainGate neural interface reaches 1,000-day milestone

An investigational implanted system being developed to translate brain signals toward control of assistive devices has allowed a woman with paralysis to accurately control a computer cursor at 2.7 years after implantation, providing a key demonstration that neural activity can be read out and converted into action for an unprecedented length of time.

Stanford joins BrainGate team developing brain-computer interface to aid people with paralysis

The pilot clinical trial, known as BrainGate2,* is based on technology developed at Brown University and is led by researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brown and the Providence Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The researchers have now invited the Stanford team to establish the only trial site outside of New England.

BrainGate seeks to empower disabled

In April 2011, 58-year-old Cathy Hutchinson served herself coffee. The action would have been unremarkable, except that Hutchinson served herself using a robotic arm that she controlled with her thoughts. Hutchinson suffered a brainstem stroke almost 15 years earlier that left her unable to move any of her limbs.

Psyleron is a product company and research organization that explores the connection between the mind and the physical world. Discoveries made at the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research (PEAR) laboratory have shown that consciousness and intention can influence the behavior of quantum electronic devices known as “Random Event Generators” (REGs) or “Random Number Generators.” Psyleron was founded by PEAR scientists and associates for the purpose of providing tools that enable ongoing research and personal exploration of mind-matter effects.

Companies in the gaming, health care, automobile and education sectors are devising applications, and even the U.S. national archery team are using the technology. Industry figures speak of a future in which machines respond to our minds, with cars that track the mental states of drivers and search engines that read images in a user’s head.

A pianist plays a series of notes, and the woman echoes them on a computerized music system. The woman then goes on to play a simple improvised melody over a looped backing track. It doesn’t sound like much of a musical challenge — except that the woman is paralysed after a stroke, and can make only eye, facial and slight head movements. She is making the music purely by thinking.

IBM predicts it will be making ‘mind-controlled’ PCs within five years

“Neither of these predictions is hugely ‘out there’.

Primitive mind-control is already used in games such as Mattel’s Mindflex, where you wear a brainwave-reading headband and concentrate to raise and lower a ball – held mid-air by jets of air that respond to your brainwaves.”

Paralyzed woman uses first mind-controlled robot arm

Using BrainGate, the world’s most advanced brain-computer interface, a woman with quadriplegia has used a mind-controlled robot arm to serve herself coffee — an act she hasn’t been able to perform for 15 years. I strongly suggest you watch the video below — the expression on her face at the end is really quite beautiful.

Real-life Avatar: The first mind-controlled robot surrogate

To complete the loop, the robot has a camera on its head, with the image being displayed in front of Shapira. Speaking to New Scientist, it sounds like Shapira really became one with the robot: “It was mind-blowing. I really felt like I was there, moving around,” he says. “At one point the connection failed. One of the researchers picked the robot up to see what the problem was and I was like, ‘Oi, put me down!’”
