Benjamin D. Rearick, 31, of Shelocta, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014, at UPMC Presbyterian, with his family by his side.

He was born May 30, 1982, in Kittanning, a son of Kevin and Betsy (Moore) Rearick. Ben spent most of his life in the area and was a graduate of Elderton High School, class of 2000.

Following high school, he attended Clarion University, earning his undergraduate degree in music education and taught for six years in the Magnolia Elementary School, Joppa, Md., as an elementary music teacher and choral director. After returning to Pennsylvania, he was a substitute school teacher for numerous area school districts.

Ben was a member of Elderton Presbyterian Church. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his parents; his brother, Andrew C. Rearick and his wife, Michelle, and nephew, Ethan, of Cameron, N.C.; his sister, Emily J. Shaffer and her husband, Ricky, and niece, Jillian, of Ford City; his paternal grandparents, Donald and Janet Rearick, of Elderton; and his maternal grandmother, Ruth Moore, of Rochester Mills. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Craig E. Moore.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at the CLARK CHAPEL OF THE BAUER FUNERAL HOME INC., 238 S. Main St., Elderton, with the Rev.

Edward Gray officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Rochester Mills.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ben’s honor to a charity closest to the donor’s heart.
