GRAND MARSHAL FOR THE CLARION HOSPITAL “TOURNAMENT OF LEAVES PARADE”
We are proud to have Gary Matus as the Grand Marshal of the Clarion Hospital “Tournament of Leaves” Parade. When Gary was 2 years old he complained of “hot balls” in his legs and joints. It wasn’t until the doctors at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh diagnosed him with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis that his parents understood why he would not walk. Gary is a very active 3rd grader at Clarion Area Elementary and while he may go to the doctors more than most 8 year old boys, that does not stop him from getting straight A’s, playing football, baseball, basketball, competitive archery and being a member of the Boys Scouts. Gary is also a very active member of the Arthritis Foundation of Westmoreland County. For his 7th birthday, he asked all of his friends and family to make donations to the Arthritis Foundation instead of gifts. He has also raised money by having a yard sale and a Thirty-One party. To date, he has raised over $1000 in donations. In 2012, Gary was named the Arthritis Foundation of Westmoreland County Fall Walk Honoree. Also in that same year, he won a scholarship through the foundation to attend the National Juvenile Arthritis convention which was held in St. Louis, MO. Earlier this year, the Arthritis Foundation invited him to a private lunch with NFL Hall of Famers LC Greenwood and Anthony Greggs. Gary continues to have “hot balls” in his legs and joints, but with medications, staying active, therapy and the support of his family, his pain is more manageable. Gary does have arthritis, but the disease does NOT have him. He plans to raise awareness and money so that people do understand that “kids do get arthritis too”. Gary, who is the son of Rachel & Joe Matus and is little brother to his older sister Amanda, and the Matus family reside in Clarion.

NORTHWEST SAVINGS BANK “ANTIQUE TRACTOR SHOW”
Are you a tractor enthusiast? Then make plans to attend this premier tractor show to be held on Main Street, Clarion between 2nd and 5th Avenues from 12 Noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 29. The Northwest Savings Bank Antique Tractor Show gets bigger and better each year, and even includes a toy display. Farm, garden, lawn, implement, hit & miss engines, and toys are welcome—anything farm related! Pre-registration is requested, but participants are welcome the day of the show. Trophies will be awarded in several classes. There will be free barrel train rides for the children, too! In the days leading up to the tractor show, visit Northwest Savings Bank Main Street Clarion branch for a sneak peak of a toy tractor display. New at this year’s show, performing from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., will be Next O’Kin, a gospel & country group from southern Clarion County. This ensemble was originally founded in the 60’s with all seven Weckerly siblings performing songs with circuit riders from their local Methodist Church. The family band grew apart as each of the seven siblings pursued careers and started families of their own. In the late 1990’s however, several reunited, creating a group known as the Weckerly Family. Most recently, the group has adopted the name, Next O’Kin, to better represent their diversity and musical heritage. They believe their talents have been given to them to use for God’s glory, leading others in worship through song. The four siblings are Darl Weckerly, Jane Mohnkern, Harold Weckerly, and Ruth Snyder. Next O’Kin remains a family band who enjoys being together, blending their voices in song, and sometimes laughing at their own slip-ups. Whether performing at churches, nursing homes, or community events, they encourage their audience to join them in singing familiar praises and old country tunes. Although a FREE event, we ask that you bring a non-perishable item to benefit the Clarion County Community Bank FOODSTOCK. In addition to this event there will also be pedal go-kart rides on Main Street on the corner of Main and 4th avenue. These Berg USA, LLC pedal go-karts out of Lititz, PA are being brought to the festival by the Clarion 4H Club. Various designs and sizes of pedal go-karts will be at the event for children to ride. There is a $1 per ride fee for taking a ride in the pedal go-karts. Call 814-221-0801, if you have questions.
