 (Credits: @yvet0)

here’s your fix of Salted egg carrot cake from now till 2nd August!

For updates, please scroll to the end of the post!

I mean, really. When we see the words “Salted Egg” something, our eyes will light up and our hearts will automatically skip a beat, and who cares about the price? Just order only. This is for you, Salted Egg lovers.

I’ve been searching for all types of salted egg dishes in Singapore, and wanted to try them all before writing this guide. However, my belly can’t keep up with the rate of these inventive salted egg dishes are coming up EACH DAY. Who cares what I think of the dish?! Even if I say it’s bad, you guys would still go ahead to try it, because how bad can salted egg yolk dishes get?! I know.

This list will be updated on a regular basis. I may have missed out a few places for each dish, so feel free to update me in the comments section below. All that glitters is not gold, here goes, some liquid gold.

Starting with the mother of golden sand,

1. Liu Sha Bao – The Mother of All Salted Egg Dishes

The places to get these are limitless, here are some of the mainstream ones:
Mongkok Dim Sum: 214 Geylang Road, Lor 17
Victor’s Kitchen: 91 Bencoolen Street, #01-49, Sunshine Plaza
Yi Dian Xin: 1012A Upper Serangoon Road (Cheapest and one of the best Liu Sha Baos in town!)
And of course, Swee Choon: 183/185/187/189/191 Jalan Besar

2. Bolo Liu Sha Bao
The BEST damn alternative to all kinds of Liu Sha Bao. Crisp crust, and a molten lava salted egg center. It’s like Tim Ho Wan’s bolo buns, but better, with liquid gold.
Mouth Restaurant: 68 Orchard Road, Plaza Singapura, #02-01

Get into my mouth NOW!

You must be thinking, oh my tell me something I don’t already know. 29 more dishes to go, and now, on to the mains..

3. Salted Egg Burger
This may look like an ordinary burger, but NO, it’s not. It’s DeBurg’s Asian Chicken Burger: A choice of 50 – 200g ($6.50, $11, $16) of chicken patty with greens, and SALTED EGG YOLK SAUCE! They could’ve been more generous with the sauce though. If this isn’t enough, you could top up $4 as an add on! The salted egg sauce is also available in the Crab Burger!
Deburg: 2 Kallang Avenue, #02-15. CT Hub., S339407

4. Salted Egg Crab
There are loads of seafood places and tze char stalls that serves up this dish, and needs no further recommendation! The one I had at House of Seafood was pretty dope!
House of Seafood: 3 Punggol Point Road, The Punggol Settlement #01-01/02

5. Salted Egg Chicken Wings/ Drumlets
By the boys from Stateland Cafe, these salted egg yolk chicken ($15.90 for 8 pieces, 2 flavors) from Chick and Ken was pretty addictive! Wish they would incorporate some of these homemade sauce into their thick toast at Stateland!

8. Salted Egg Eggs Benedict
I reached Drury Lane at 10am, and found out that they had a new menu. This Salted Egg Eggs Benedict ($17) caught my attention immediately, but it was only available from 2pm onwards. Guess who starved herself to wait for this? And all I could say, it was well worth the wait. One of the better Eggs Benedict I’ve had. Salted Egg, prawn on a toasted mantou. POWER LAH.
Drury Lane: 94 Tg Pagar Rd, Singapore 088515

Side dishes,

9. Salted Egg Calamari
Every time I ask for a salted egg yolk dish, I’ll get directed to Wah Chee for it’s calamari. It’s either this dish is pretty damn good, or it’s because I am in NUS, and Wah Chee is very nearby. Hmmm.. I would say it’s most likely the latter. I thought this dish was pretty average, and it gets quite gelat after a few rings. Good to share though! Not to worry, like the salted egg crab, this can be found in many other tze char stalls too!
Wah Chee: 3 Dover Road, Singapore 130003

10. Salted Egg Prawn
Had this at House of Seafood as well. Loved the grainy texture! Likewise, available at many other stalls as well! Do tell me where’s your favorite place to get your salted egg prawn fix!

New Station Snack Bar: Far East Plaza #05-95, 14 Scotts Road (S)228213

12. Salted Egg Fries
LeBan was the first place I heard of having salted egg fries, and I think they were the pioneer of this dish before cafes like Arbite and The Quarters came up with it! I loved this from LeBan cafe because the servings are SO generous, and there are actual chunks of salted egg yolk within the fries!

(Credits: @scooptherapy)

Me need to try this, pronto. That liquid gold oozing upon the crumbly bits of brownie. I am having a sugar rush just looking at this. But wouldn’t the fudgy taste mar the taste of salted egg? I can only guess for now! Warm Fudgy Brownie on a bed of chocolate soil, topped up with a scoop of ice cream and salted egg yolk drizzle from Scoop Therapy!
