For anybody who hasn’t watched Bob’s Burgers, do yourself a favour and hope on Netflix and get going. The genre it falls under is animated sitcom however I’d call it adult animation. No, not that type of adult animation just that it is a cartoon that is not made for kids. I love this type of genre and I love this show. Bob’s Burgers follows the Belcher family of Bob, Linda, and their children Tina, Gene, and Louise as they run the family restaurant “Bob’s Burgers”.

Character breakdown: Bob Belcher is the husband of Linda, the father of Tina, Gene, and Louise, and the main character of the series. He owns his own burger place and despite his best efforts, the restaurant hasn’t quite reach the level of success that he hopes for. Occasionally there are burst of booming success however that only lasts an episode or two. He’s a great father to his children and has a hilarious deadpan delivery and comes off as a very real type of character.

Linda Belcher is Bob’s wife and the mother of Tina, Gene, and Louise. Her passions include singing, dinner theater, porcelain baby figurines, Tom Selleck, nautically themed romance novels, and prenatal yoga. As with the entire family she works at Bob’s Burgers. She constantly supports her children even though they are occasionally up to some shifty stuff. “Alriiiiiight!”

Tina Belcher is the eldest Belcher child and the “geek” of the family. She was said to be autistic in the first episode, but the claim was immediately dismissed by her parents. She generally speaks in a monotonous low voice, works part-time at the restaurant and is often the voice of reason among the Belcher children, though it is made quite clear that she has her own eccentricities that rival those of her siblings. She is trying to come to grips with her entry into adulthood, and claims to have a complicated relationship with zombies. She is obsessed with horses, boys (particularly Jimmy Jr.), and buttocks; in various episodes she writes in her journal about touching people’s butts, which, to her, is the height of sexual contact.

Gene Belcher is the middle child and only son of the family. Like his mother, he has a very enthusiastic attitude about almost everything; however, he closely resembles his father. He often promotes the restaurant by wearing a burger costume and using a toy megaphone to hand out samples. Gene has a variety of interests, the biggest being food and music. He occasionally demonstrates great skill in music and dreams of one day being a famous musician; he enjoys playing a Casio-type keyboard and creates an elaborate love duet as well as a one-man show. Gene also has a predilection for gender-bending

Louise Belcher is the youngest of the Belcher siblings. In spite of being the youngest, she usually dominates her two older siblings by wearing down their self-esteem over a period of years. Precocious, manipulative, and aggressive (even towards adults), she is more than willing to exploit people if there is anything to be gained. She has an offbeat and dark sense of humor and picks locks as a hobby. Louise always wears her signature pink hat with bunny ears, regardless of the time of day or situation; to date, she has never been seen by the viewer without the piece of headgear.

If you’re looking for the next show to binge watch on Netflix, look no further than Bob’s Burgers. I can’t recommend it enough.
