Today was amazing. Simple as that. I would end on that note if I thought it was okay. HOWEVER I’m sure you want to hear all about why it was so great!
First off, I got to sleep in. After two straight weeks of working 12+ hour days let me tell you it was very much needed! Then I sat down to watch some TSN, and they were doing a Canada Games recap. Now it wasn’t my piece that aired, but I helped in the filming of a story done on wheelchair basketball, and TSN played it today! Tyson Fedor did the story, and it was absolutely brilliant to see aired on a national channel I’ve grown up watching.
Then I headed to downtown Prince George, and watched the latest episode of Canada Games TV Today playing in the plaza. It was special to me because the piece I’ve been most proud of aired, and I thought I did a pretty bang up job thanks to some help from the other media students.
Lucas and Tyler from my radio program came down after, and it was nice to see them after a while! We caught up, and then took in the Madeline Merlo concert. I really wanted to go to the meet and greet with her afterwards, but they bailed to go meet some other friends, so I was tasked with meeting one of the most gorgeous girls in country music on my own. I am a HUGE country fan, so the opportunity was too crazy good to pass up. I finally had my chance to talk with her, so we chatted briefly about life in the lower mainland (she’s from Maple Ridge) and then I got a picture (below). Then I had the brilliant idea to post the picture to Facebook and Instagram, and my phone erupted as my friends started asking who the girl was (not many of my friends are country fans) so I had to explain that she’s a country singer, and NOT my girlfriend. I should note I shed a tear as wrote those last three words.
Then I headed back to the media centre with a signed picture in hand, and waited with the crew for the Tim Hicks concert. It wound up being just myself and one other guy that went over, but it was a great concert! Two country performances in one day was pretty brilliant, and I may be getting to help interview another Canadian star tomorrow, so that would be amazing! This trip has seriously deepened my love for media so much, because we get to do so many cool things, and talk to people that are such stars in the world.
