Ever since Donald Trump announced his intention to run for president of the United States, his eldest daughter Ivanka has been on a style offensive.

By his side for the duration of the campaign trail, the blonde beauty has been in the public eye from a very young age.

But while she favoured more of a Paris Hilton style ‘It’ girl aesthetic in her youth, the 35-year-old has since transformed herself into a business woman and fashion powerhouse, favouring the kind of preppy, polished workwear wardrobe that Michelle Obama made her own when she entered the White House eight years ago.

As well as working for the Trump organisation, the mother of three also heads up her own eponymous clothing range, filled with the kind of workwear pieces she has made her trademark look.

The main reason for its success? While Ivanka’s own wardrobe is mainly designer, she’s focussed on affordability, bringing her blend of all-American chic to the masses, and that’s what really makes her interesting and one to watch over the coming years.

Some may have regarded her as an American Kate Middleton – but when her father appointed her to be a member of his presidential transition team and applied for security clearance for her within the White House she moved into a different league.

Far from being a figurehead fashionista, Ivanka Trump may well become one of America’s most powerful female role models in the coming year with a wardrobe that’s just as influential as the political advice she gives her father. And her next move on the fashion front will be just as crucial for any future hopes of a political career.

If she’s serious about securing her place in the hearts of American voters , she’ll need to support homegrown talent in a big way. French fashion houses and Italian leather goods will need to make way for brands like Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, DKNY and J. Crew. Identifying and nurturing up-and-coming talent won’t hurt either.

But if Ivanka really wants to make her mark as a political powerhouse, an alliance with a glossy publication like American Vogue and an ensuing cover shoot will put her on the fast track to professional glory.

The fashion bible’s editor Anna Wintour did pledge her allegiance to Hillary Clinton via a t-shirt at the Marc Jacobs SS17 show during New York Fashion Week in February.

But as the decision to put Kim Kardashian on the cover of the magazine proves, where the majority go, Vogue follows.
