Whether it’s how long you should leave your hair dye on for, to directions to that brand new restaurant you’ve been dying to try, Google is officially life’s little helper for all things information-based.

Googling the latest styles is one way to decide if you like that brand new trend, and for the second year running, the search engine has compiled a trend report of what’s hot and what’s not in 2016 based on our Googling habits.

So if you looked up ’embroidered bomber jacket’ a hundred times like we have the past few months, you may have contributed to this trend report.

The report is divided into sections, dictating what’s in as a trend, what’s a sustainable trend and what’s on its way out.

Some of 2016’s most sustainable trends, meaning that they continued to grow in popularity regardless of season, are biker jeans and ripped jeans, so pick up a pair if you haven’t already.

There are a multitude of trends listed as ‘rising stars,’ meaning that they have experienced a dramatic upturn of interest but they may not be sustainable (aka, passing fads).

The most popular ‘rising star’ was by far the off-the-shoulder top, which saw a dramatic increase in popularity.

The top’s trendiness was brought on after it was seen on the likes of Olivia Palermo, Alexa Chung and Kendall and Kylie Jenner, who were googled alongside the top style.

While the off-the-shoulder top may be a rising star, it may not be sustainable coming into autumn, so maybe don’t make any dramatic investments in the trend which may be over before we know it.

The bomber jacket was another major trend for 2016, and the associated search terms prove that the trend surpasses age limits and gender boundaries.

The oriental bomber is the most searched kind, along with leather and petal pink satin.

‘Despite being a fierce military look, bomber jackets are being searched along embroidered more than camo in both markets,’ says the report, so keep a hold of your Japanese style bomber for now.

It’s not all good news for 2016’s trends.

Items which have declined in popularity include white jeans, palazzo pants, suede skirts, waist trainers, acid wash jeans and sheer clothing.

While we will be happy to see the back of waist trainers and acid wash jeans (we weren’t happy to see the front of them, to be honest) we might hold on to our suede button-down minis just in case.
