She has a hit-and-miss love life as on-screen alter ego Vanessa Woodfield.

But, in real life, British actress Michelle Hardwick has a much more successful time – not least because the Emmerdale star married her girlfriend, Rosie Nicholl, over the Easter weekend.

The blonde TV star posted a picture of her ceremony at North Yorkshire’s Danby Castle to her official Twitter page on Saturday, which was warmly welcomed by fans.

The 39 year-old, from Wakefield, looked beautiful in a white, strapless gown which boasted an embellished chest.

Wearing her hair down in a cascade of curls, she added some nude make-up and defined eyeliner for a demure, classic look.

Meanwhile, Rosie looked equally pretty in a more retro design, which featured a lace detail across the shoulders and bodice. She also wore a white rose in her hair.

Taking to Twitter to caption the shot, Michelle wrote: ‘I can honestly say that yesterday was the best day of my life… Thankyou to my wife @rosiebone.’

The post was ‘favourited’ more than 1,000 times in less than 24 hours, with one fan summing-up the response with: ‘Congratulations to you both. You look beautiful’.

The pair met four years ago when Michelle was doing panto and Rosie was playing in the orchestra.

Speaking previously to Daily Mail about her upcoming nuptials, Michelle said last year: ‘We’re both wearing dresses and our dads are walking us down the aisle. I can’t wait.’

Michelle told her family she was gay when she was 28 after years of struggling with her sexuality.

‘Family members would ask if I had a boyfriend and my excuse was I was too busy at work,’ she added.

‘I was nervous about telling them and didn’t plan it, but my dad asked me and I didn’t want to hide it. He was only upset that I felt I couldn’t tell him before. My whole family have been amazing, as have Rosie’s. We’re very lucky.’

However, Michelle wasn’t the only soap star to attend the ceremony.

Home and Away’s Lynne McGranger, 62, made a special trip from Australia to be part of the big day, sharing the couple’s joy.

Clearly excited about seeing her friend tie the knot, Lynne shared a picture of herself with gorgeous bride Michelle.  ’Two of my favourite people @chellehardwick and @MaureenBrown #bestday#beautifulbrides #danbycastle’, Lynne captioned the snap.

It is unknown how Lynne, who is famous for her long running role as Irene Roberts on Home and Away, has become such good friends with the UK actress.
