Irish women have many things in common. We’re all great craic, we love to glam it up on a night out, and we’re slightly obsessed with Penneys.
But women from different counties have different traits and unique qualities related to the place they call home.
So with that in mind, here are 10 things you should know if you’re planning on dating a girl from Waterford.
1. Get the slang right!
If you’re talking to a girl from Waterford, you’ll get major points for opening with ‘well girl’. A common greeting in the Déise, it’s almost always followed by ‘what’s the craic?’
Waterford people have some great slang words that you should familiarise yourself with. The most common being ‘lousy’ (something unfair), ‘wicked’ (unreal, amazing etc) and ‘shellakybooky’ (a snail).
2. The Blaa
The Blaa is a Waterford delicacy. This ‘floury bap’ is best consumed with a fork load of butter and some meat. Ideal for picnics, trips to GAA matches or just for an everyday snack!
Other counties have tried to replicate the delicious floury texture and taste of the blaa, but none have succeeded. It’s really only a real blaa if it’s made in Waterford.

3. They LOVE the Waterford hurlers
John Mullane is the unofficial president of Waterford. The man will always be a legend. To be honest, all the lads from the Waterford team are fierce sound.
And even though Waterford girls might hate the Kilkenny team, they still wouldn’t mind having their babies, if only to get their good hurling genes.
4. They have the Best sense of humour
Waterford is the home of the popular Irish satirical news website, Waterford Whispers News. The site originated as a Facebook page in 2009 but due to its explosive popularity, it’s become a full blown website.
Waterford people take great pride in the fact that Ireland’s great sense of humour basically originated in their county. So be sure to compliment your girl on that!

Waterford is home to two great cultural festivals. Spraoi takes place during the August bank holiday and Winterval is on over the Christmas season.
These festivals attract thousands of visitors with their live music, attractions, crafts and food. If you’re with a Waterford girl, this is a fine place to take her on a date!

6. The scenery is FAB!
Whether you’re a fan of beaches, mountains, forests or lakes, Waterford has got it all.
Tramore beach is a popular surfing location. After your surf, you can head to the amusement park along the promenade.
Clonea beach is the pride of Dungarvan, a beautiful coastal town in Waterford. This blue flag beach has stunning views of Helvick Head, and you can get hot chips and battered sausages there all year round.
It's officially winter so what better time of year to go for a stroll on the beach!
