After mentioning Konami’s unresponsiveness as a major hurdle to the release of further console patches, an announcement today by Lab Zero Games’ Peter “Ravidrath” Bartholow has revealed that Skullgirls will be moving forward by other means. Autumn Games, the publisher and current owner of the Skullgirls property, recently severed all ties with Konami and picked up a new testing partner in Digital Hearts, a collaboration that Bartholow describes the team as being happy with.

While testing is nearing completion, there are still a few more steps that need to be taken before patches can begin flowing onto PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, most notably with the latter due to Microsoft’s policy on solely digital publishers. As such, the next update (which includes Squiqly, the first character released after the Lab Zero Games’ successful Indiegogo campaign) will once again appear on PlayStation Network first, though luckily the gap between releases will be nowhere near as long as before thanks to their previous experiences.

Bartholow also mentioned that since Konami was only responsible for distributing the game in the United States and Europe, the release of the Japanese patch on PlayStation 3 shouldn’t be affected in any serious way. Autumn Games and Lab Zero are working closely with their Japanese distributor CyberFront to make sure the patch’s appearances on these various platforms are as close as possible.

This should certainly come as no surprise due to the issues the folks behind this title were having with Konami, but luckily things appear to be on track once more. Skullgirls fans eagerly awaiting parity with their Steam counterparts definitely have a lot to look forward to with these changes.

Bartholow’s full message can be found over on Indiegogo.
