The Tour Manager serves in oversight and management of Seattle-based tours for set departures, private luxury eco-adventure tours and corporate programs.  This position is up to full time year-round, and primarily administrative in nature.

 ORGANIZATION

From Northern California to British Columbia, EverGreen Escapes is Cascadia’s most reputable nature, adventure and epicurean tour operator specializing in providing authentic and educational local experiences which immerse our escapists into our mountains, islands, waterways, culture, farms, fare, brew and wine.

We provide daily small group tours, custom and private tours, multi-day adventures, team building experiences and corporate retreats. All escapes are led by local “Escape Artist” naturalist guides in biofueled Mercedes SUV’s, Vans and Luxury Motor Coaches. EverGreen Escapes also designs and hosts adventures and excursions to six continents in the world using the above values and methods. Our demographics primarily include adults aged 35-75 from across the United States and worldwide. We maintain base camps in both Seattle, WA and Portland, OR, USA.  Our central office is in Seattle.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Guide Management

Hire, train and supervise Seattle-based team of naturalist guides

Maintain guide scheduling, field performance and time sheet review

Model professionalism and quality standards to all guides whenever working in the field

Act as advocate for guide team in all interdepartmental communications

Coordinate with Director of Sales to ensure accurate fulfillment and itinerary review of custom leisure tours and corporate programs

Co-manage product quality, routes and itineraries

Support company President in managing company-wide Human Resources

Risk Management

Maintain all guide certifications

Purchase, inspect and manage adventure equipment, including snowshoes and sea kayaks

Incident response and review

Design and deliver seasonal guide trainings and execute medical scenario reviews

Ensure compliance with industry standards for institutional wilderness travel and adventure activities

Access & Relationship Management

Maintain all permits and relationships with land managers

Maintain relationships with gear manufacturers and pro deals, including Columbia Sportswear company sponsorship

Tour Guiding

Occasionally guide leisure tours and corporate programs, including custom private experiences, both single- and multi-day

Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS – REQUIRED

BA, BS or equivalent

Minimum 5 years experience in travel, environmental, outdoor, and/or adventure education

Risk management experience & command of institutional standards in adventure activities

Responsible, independent, creative-thinking, self-starting, charismatic individual

Able to provide 5-star guest service for individuals from various backgrounds, beliefs and cultures.

Clean driving record

Comfortable driving 12-passenger luxury Mercedes vans, crossovers and SUV’s in all conditions (city streets under heavy traffic through snowy mountain roads requiring chains to be installed/removed)

Within first two weeks of hire, must have completed Leave No Trace Awareness certification, In-House Driver training, Food Handlers permit and alcohol handling “mixologist” permit.

Ability to lift 40 lbs/18 kg

 

QUALIFICATIONS – PREFERRED (some or all)

2 or more years supervisory experience in environmental, outdoor, and/or adventure education

Experience in leadership development, team building, and/or group facilitation

Pertinent professional adventure certifications, including: AMGA single pitch instructor (or higher), ACA/BCU sea kayak certs, and/or avalanche Level 1 (Level 2 or higher preferred).

Knowledge of naturalist specialties which may include: birding, ethnobotany, geology, snow morphology, marine ecology, vulcanology, or others.

NAI-certified interpretive naturalist

PNW region-specific knowledge of geography, culture, natural & human history, and ecology

Multilingual (especially Japanese, Mandarin, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Arabic, and/or German)

Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification or higher

Experience in the adventure travel industry
