Translator for luxury eco-adventures and city tours for non-English speakers in French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Mandarin, and Japanese.

 

GENERAL INFO

Evergreen Escapes is seeking the ability to extend our services to peoples of varied languages, and to this end is searching for on-call help facilitating these tours.   Those capable of executing the “Escape Artist” requirements in multiple languages are preferred, but we are also looking for parties interested in accompanying tours as translators.   The translator role and requirements are as follows, and for more specifics on positions leading as an ”Escape Artist” see job listings for Epicurean and Naturalist guide positions.

EverGreen Escapes is widely recognized as our region’s most reputable adventure travel company, specializing in crafting upscale nature, adventure, epicurean, and education-based experiences throughout Cascadia and beyond. We specialize in providing authentic and educational local experiences via small group, custom and private half, full, and multi-day escapes led by local “Escape Artist” guides who provide our clients with immersion experiences in our mountains, islands, waterways, culture, farms, fare, brew, wine, and spirits. EverGreen Escapes also designs and hosts adventures and excursions to six continents in the world using the above values and methods. Our demographics primarily include adults aged 35-75 from across the United States and worldwide. We maintain base camps in Seattle, WA and Portland, OR, USA.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

• Translate and transmit all required information in a diverse range of half-, full-, and multi-day tours, retreats and team building programs. Much of the time will be spent working directly with clients. Naturalist/adventure tours of Mt Hood, Columbia Gorge, Mt St Helens, Oregon Coast, and Portland city tours will be among your primary workload.

• Translate varied and at times somewhat technical interpretive commentary about the Pacific Northwest region (Cascadia), human history, natural history, and general ecology.

• Assist in meeting/exceeding industry standard protocol when managing clients in various wilderness-adventure environments which may include: sea kayaking, hiking, snowshoeing, and rock climbing.

• Professionally present and serve local/organic food, coffee, and wine.

• Provide professional appearance and conduct with all clients, colleagues, and partner organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS – REQUIRED

•Fluency in English and a second language as listed above.

•Resident of greater Portlandia or willingness to relocate immediately

• Comfortable in outdoor environments, and at times rough terrain.

• Responsible, independent, creative-thinking, self-starting, charismatic individual

• Able to provide 5-star guest service for individuals from various backgrounds, beliefs, and cultures.

• Ability to lift 40 lbs/18 kg

• Pass an Oregon State Patrol background check

QUALIFICATIONS – DESIRED (some or all)

• 4-year degree or higher

• minimum 2 years experience with translating

• experience in leadership development, team building, and/or group facilitation

• familiarity or willingness to learn translation of naturalist specialties which may include: birding, ethnobotany, geology, snow morphology, glaciology, or vulcanology.

• ability to translate information regarding PNW region-specific geography, culture, natural & human history, and ecology

• multilingual (especially Japanese, Mandarin, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Arabic, and/or German)

COMPENSATION

• Our base pay is $15/hr with significant opportunities for advancement and raises on these rates. Higher starting rates apply to those with appropriate certifications and experience.
