With an eye toward Russia's ability to mass troops quickly, the US plans to demonstrate its own ability to move manpower and heavy vehicles as soldiers begin a 1,100-mile convoy through six countries en route to their home station in Vilseck, Germany.
The US Army squadron wrapping several months of training with allies in Poland will take its Strykers through the Baltics March 21 through April 1, stopping in a new community each night. The vehicles are part of an armored brigade's worth of equipment the Army plans to station in Europe.
Russia: Increases current military drills to 80,000 troops ~ link ~ There are a number of ways to 'read' the current large scale NATO and Russian Air/Land/Sea military deployments and 'war games' being held across Europe and Asia. One way is that both sides are now very close to all-out war and are positing forces for the imminent outbreak of hostilities. Is this the correct way to 'read' current events? Russia said Thursday it had doubled the number of troops taking part in mass drills ordered by President Vladimir Putin this week to 80,000 in a major show of strength amid tensions with the West over Ukraine.
Putin on Monday ordered drills for more than 40,000 troops in regions spanning the country, from the Arctic to the far east to the volatile southern Caucasus, and ordered nuclear bomber jets to be deployed in Crimea a year after its annexation by Moscow.
Russia said Thursday that thousands of troops had launched war games on the remote Pacific island of Sakhalin close to Japan.

Sweden expanding naval capacity and Baltic Sea operations ~ link ~ link ~
The strategic mission direction of the capital investment programs is intended to support measures to reinforce Sweden's presence in the Baltic Sea. It will result in a permanent return by the Swedish Navy to Gotland Island, Sweden's most southern military outpost in the Baltic Sea.
The AFC has advanced plans to locate a fast response Gripen jet squadron on Gotland, along with a support helicopter unit and a modular-structured rapid response Army battalion.
Second French-built Mistral-class warship for Russia completes first Sea Trial ~ link ~
The Sevastopol, the second of two Mistral-class helicopter carriers built for Russia, returned to harbor Friday after a first sea trial, a spokesman for prime contractor DCNS said.
Meanwhile, on the first ship, the Vladivostok, DCNS and subcontractor STX France bear the monthly cost of some €2.5 million (US $2.7 million) to cover security, maintenance and harbor fees, specialist website Mer et Marine and regional paper Le Télégramme reported. DCNS declined to comment.
Italy increases air and naval presence in the Mediterranean ~ link ~
Italy said Thursday it would increase its military presence in the central Mediterranean, describing a deadly attack on a museum in Tunis as fresh evidence of a growing threat from extremist groups."Following a worsening of the terrorist threat, dramatically demonstrated by yesterday's events in Tunisia, an increase in our air and naval deployments in the central Mediterranean has become necessary," Defence Minister Roberta Pinotti told the parliamentary defence and foreign affairs committee.

The Baltic Dry Index has been a steadfast indicator of the REAL economy for many years. While most other indexes and measures of fiscal health are subject to direct or indirect manipulation, the BDI has no money flowing through it and, thus, offers a more honest reflection of the world around us. In the past two months, the index measuring shipping rates and international demand for raw goods has hit all-time historical lows, plummeting 57 percent over the course of the past 12 months and 30 percent for the year to date.
Beyond this lay the true beneficiaries of public oblivion; international corporate moguls, banking financiers, and political despots. Corporations and governments only do two things relatively well — lying and stealing. One always enables the other.
The establishment has done everything in its power to hide the most foundational of economic realities, namely the reality of dying demand. Why? Because the longer they can hide true demand, the more time they have to steal what little independent wealth remains within the system while positioning the populace for the next great con (the con of total globalization and centralization). I will cover the many advantages of an economic collapse for elites at the end of this series.
That said, the swift decline in manufacturing jobs in the U.S. over the past two decades, including a considerable 33 percent overall decline in manufacturing jobs from 2001 to 2010, leaves only the consumer and service sectors as the primary areas of employment and “production.” The service sector provides about three out of every four jobs available in America, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The truth is that America actually produces very little that is tangible beyond Big Macs, pharmaceuticals and the occasional overpriced fighter jet that doesn’t function correctly and is filled with Chinese parts. All three will kill you at varying degrees of speed...
