Europe can be a great place to go for a road trip. You can find some of the most beautiful roads and awe inspiring views.
Alpenstrasse, Germany
In Germany you can find the Alpenstrasse, an exciting route that is filled with various twists and turns that run for over 450 km. The jaw dropping Alpine landscape gives you a view of just how beautiful Germany is.
Throughout the route, you’ll see various beautiful sights, such as Alpine meadows, mountain lakes, historical castles, and the odd man wearing the traditional lederhosen. As this is a German road, the lanes are wide, and speed limits exciting.
When riding through this Alpine road, you’ll be treated to long straights where you can put your foot down, as well as hill climbs and hairpins to cruise around. You’ll feel perfectly comfortable riding at high speeds, as German engineering has ensured that the roads are safe to drive on.
If you like to be spontaneous, there are plenty of detours around this area which can allow you to drive on roads with narrow twists and steep climbs.
Mille Miglia, Italy
Originally, the Mille Miglia was a thousand mile endurance race that went over the roads of northern Italy from Brescia, then to Rome and back over an 8 shaped route. The race was banned in 1957, but as of 1982 it was revived as an exciting tour trip.
You can start your journey at the old city centre of Brescia. This beautiful city is located at the foot of the Alps, and the various buildings show off the rich history it has on offer.
There is the chance to drive past the shore of Lake Garda, Italy’s largest lake, situated in Desenzano del Garda. Desenzano is a popular tourist location due to its amazing view of the Alps and its three large beaches.
Part of the trip takes you through the Italian countryside. You will see a handful of hamlets and villages that are spread across field after field. There aren’t many tourist attractions in this location, meaning you get to have the full enjoyment of the most amazing Italian landscapes.
Battle of the Bulge, Belgium
If you’re someone who enjoys locations filled with history, the Battle of the Bulge road trip can be ideal for you. You are taken back to one of the largest and bloodiest battles that the Americans fought during World War II.
The Battle of the Bulge was one of Germany’s last major offensive. It was planned by Hitler, and it the plan consisted of slowing the allied advance on the Western front drastically if accomplished. They were going to get through American defences and secure important bridges. The offensive was successful due to a dense fog, but the fierce American resistance and improved weather conditions managed to stop the German advance.
The trip takes you to Belgium, and you pass through the invasion route of the German army.
On the route, you can find an American war cemetery and memorial. It holds the graves of 7,992 American soldiers that died on the Western front. It’s open for the public, and you can always find a staff member that can answer any questions and direct you to specific graves.
Part of the route is through the High Fens, one of Belgium’s largest nature reserves. You get to drive past some beautiful forest areas. Further along the route, you can find museums that will explain the famous events that happened on this journey. You’ll also drive along some of the most exciting and interesting roads in this region.
Transfagarasan, Romania
The Transfagarasan mountain road is one of the most amazing roads you can find anywhere in the world. This 90 km road runs through part of the Fagaras mountains, which is part of the Transylvanian Alps.
This extraordinary road rises all the way to a height of 2134 meters, and has some of the sharpest hairpin turns found on any road. Because of this, the maximum speed is 25 mph, but that is all you need to enjoy a ride on The Transfagarasan.
This road is famous for having more tunnels and viaducts than any other road in Romania. The highest point of this road is located by the longest and highest tunnel of Romania, spanning just over half a mile. You may have seen this road back in 2009 when the BBC’s Top Gear filmed along it and host Jeremy Clarkson claimed it was the best road in the world.

As you ride along you will be able to see a mountainous landscape alpine and pine meadows. You also get to travel through the Arges River gorge, which is an amazing site in itself. Once you travel past the last village in this area, you can see a road sign for Poenari Castle.
This castle was home to Vlad the Impaler, who inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula. If you look closely up at the mountains you can see his castle on a high and remote cliff. There are 1480 stairs before you can reach the castle, but once you’re up there, the view will make it all worth it.
As you follow the road north, you will finally come to Vidraru Lake. The lake is man-made and is held by a dam. The dam is 165 meters high and 305 meters long, and the road runs along it. You will see some of the most beautiful sites when you are riding along the dam.
