Directline Holidays, an independent and privately owned UK travel agent, suggests that Greece’s success as a top holiday destination, is the result of the always good weather, high accommodation standards and affordable prices due to the economic instability in the last twelve months.

The online travel agency Directline Holidays, which specializes in selling cheap package holidays, flights and hotels, wrote that Greece is a top-selling destination for summer 2013, followed by Turkey, with a continued strong demand. The Balearic Islands saw a small drop in bookings, but Spain remains steadily in the third place due to the timeless popularity of the Canary Islands. Portugal shows a rise of 50 percent in bookings and ranks in the fourth position.

Greece maintains the first place holding almost 25 percent of the total holiday bookings sold by Directline Holidays, while the demand for holidays in Turkey has doubled on an annual basis. Tunisia, an also strong player regarding tourism, has marked a significant development since 2012, while the popularity of Malta continues to be high.

Maria Whiteman, Managing Director of Directline Holidays, reassured travelers, saying that none of its Greece-based partners have reported any concerns.

She said, ‘It is of course possible that holiday-makers could be put off by demonstrations or holiday security, but given that the islands remain mainly unaffected, and historically travel hasn’t dipped on the back of unrest, we aren’t anticipating a decline.
