Cardiff University is offering masters excellence scholarships to start an eligible master’s programme in September 2015. Applicants should normally have a first class or upper second classification undergraduate degree from a UK University, or an equivalent award from a recognised higher education institution elsewhere. The Taught Masters Excellence Scholarships are available for a maximum of one academic year for full-time programmes, while for part-time students, the discount is applied across the duration of their programme. There are two deadlines 1 March 2015 and 5 August 2015.

Eligibility:

-‘Home’ and ‘EU’ students only (as classified for fee paying purposes, tuition fee status is determined after submitting an application to study) who are accepted on to an eligible postgraduate taught programme leading to a master’s degree, and with a firm focus on academic excellence.

-Applicants should normally have a first class or upper second classification undergraduate degree from a UK University, or an equivalent award from a recognised higher education institution elsewhere.

Scholarship Description: Cardiff University is pleased to announce that the Taught Masters Excellence Scholarship Scheme for 2015/16 entry has been confirmed. They are committed to invest up to a total of £500,000 in this high value competitive scholarship scheme to support Home and EU students who are planning to start an eligible master’s programme in September 2015. The Scholarships are each worth a minimum of £3,000 and will be awarded in the form of a tuition fee discount.  This scholarship package will give high-calibre students the opportunity to study at a world-leading, research-intensive university and help ease the associated financial burdens.

Duration of award(s): The Taught Masters Excellence Scholarships are available for a maximum of one academic year for full-time programmes, while for part-time students, the discount is applied across the duration of their programme. Full-time students studying a course which lasts longer than one year will not receive any further funding for additional years or will not be able to spread the tuition fee discount across the duration of their programme.

What does it cover? The Scholarships are each worth a minimum of £3,000, with Scholarships awarded by the College of Physical Sciences and Engineering worth £3,780, and will be awarded in the form of a tuition fee discount. Students who are successful in gaining a scholarship will have this amount deducted from their tuition fees.

Selection Criteria: The selection panels at Cardiff University will be considering some important criteria from your application and supporting statement when assessing your application form:

-Academic excellence: University requires students to demonstrate their academic successes, whilst also illustrating other areas of personal development, such as learning gained via work experience, voluntary work, or extra-curricular learning experiences;

-Contribution to society: University will look positively upon applicants who demonstrate a keen awareness of the contribution they can make to the development of their community, society or nation, as a result of obtaining their qualification from Cardiff University;

-For the Pathway to PhD scheme (College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences only): University requires that applicants can demonstrate how their chosen programme will be a suitable preparation for their future doctoral level study and show promise to succeed as doctoral candidates. They will look positively upon applicants who have an understanding of funding opportunities for doctoral level study.

Notification: University will notify applicants of the outcome of their application as soon as possible after the respective deadline but no later than by 4th September 2015. Notifications will be emailed to the provided email address.
