The Emporia State track and field team had a successful trip last weekend at KT Woodman Invitational in Wichita, as they recorded 12 top-10 finishers.

Carrie Kellie, senior, placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.91 meters to provisionally qualify in the event. Morgan Gilliland, junior, had her season’s best mark in the shot put at 14.02 meters to place third and become the Hornet’s second provisional qualifier.

Elizabeth Blevins, sophomore, ran 57.86 to place fifth in the women’s 400 meter and Catalina Bissell, junior, cleared 3.37 meters to earn the same mark in the pole vault. Two other vaulters placed in the top-10 with Iva Shepherd, sophomore, placing seventh and Alison Meeth, junior, earning ninth.

ESU had two athletes clear 1.58 meters in the women’s high jump as Bethany Bowman, junior, placed seventh and Heather Polson, sophomore, placed tenth.

Wyatt Sander, sophomore, was the top finisher for the Hornet men. He was seventh in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.13. Daniel Claassen, senior was ninth, with a time of 1:57.18 in the 800 meter, and Alec Garcia, sophomore, threw 48.02 meters to place ninth in discus.

The Hornets look to build on their successful meet later this week at the Kansas Relays, April 20-22 in

Lawrence.
