Stockholm’s latest designer accommodation, Miss Clara Hotel, has studiously followed the book of chic design to successfully reconfigure a former school for girls into a beautifully tailored hotel for design savvy travellers. Revived and transformed by the enterprising Alessandro Catenacci of the Nobis Group, the hotel takes its namesake from the much loved Clara Stromberg, the first headmistress of the Ateneum School for Girls.
The Art Nouveau building housing the iconic schoolhouse has undergone a restoration overseen by Swedish architect Gert Wingardh, who took inspiration from Sweden’s finest craftsmen and artisans in using a mix of materials and finishes such as Swedish limestone, oak timber and leather upholstery.
Each room in the 92 room, four suite hotel has a bespoke oak storage unit that serves as either a work desk, luggage storage or a perch upon which to gaze out on the streets below. Bentwood headboards by Swedish manufacturer Gemla reference the buildings Art Nouveau past while leather work by Tarnsjo will patina with age to reflect a sense of history and tradition. Warm timber parquetry flooring and marble bathrooms add just the right amount of luxe and we love the character that the bentwood coat stand at the foot of the bed adds to the room. Genius.
