Tonight’s E:60 Highlights NBA Features including Exclusive Profile with Houston Rockets All-Star James Harden
contact: carrie.b.kreiswirth@espn.com
ESPN’s prime-time newsmagazine show E:60 returns tonight at 10:00 p.m. on ESPN with two impactful NBA-focused stories.

BEHIND THE BEARD: James Harden
Trailer: https://vimeo.com/162869734

He is one of the biggest names in the NBA. A four-time All-Star, a runner-up for MVP, second in the  league in scoring, and now, with the Houston Rockets, making his seventh straight playoff appearance. And yet, despite the on-court accomplishments, not many people know the true James Harden. Until now.

As the first round of the 2016 NBA Playoffs kick-off, E:60 goes ‘Behind the Beard’ to tell the story of how an out-of-shape, asthmatic kid from Compton in Los Angeles became the league’s most unlikely and unique superstar. In a rare sit-down interview, Harden opens up to reporter Tom Rinaldi about his hard-fought journey to the NBA – growing-up without the guidance of his imprisoned father and how his mother helped him escape the street-life in one of the country’s most dangerous neighborhoods.  Harden’s family, former coaches and teammates including Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant, provide unique insight into who this star really is. Along the way, Harden shares life-changing moments, reveals why his trade from Oklahoma is still on his mind four years later, and talks about who he thinks really is the NBA’s MVP. James Harden, an E:60 Profile.

PENNY SAVED: One Game. Two Friends. An Improbable Journey
Trailer: https://vimeo.com/162075394

He was compared to Magic Johnson, a versatile young superstar who took the NBA by storm.  At the height of his career, Penny Hardaway was first team all-NBA and a Nike advertising icon. But injuries plagued him, and by 2008 he was out of the league.  Hardaway seemed finished with basketball until an encounter with Desmond Merriweather, a childhood friend who was coaching middle school basketball in the Memphis neighborhood where Hardaway grew up.  Stricken with cancer, Merriweather needed help with his team. Hardaway agreed to coach beside his ailing friend.  Side by side, the two lead their team to three straight middle school championships. In February 2015, Merriweather lost his battle with cancer.  But Hardaway was not finished carrying on his friend’s legacy.  This season, Hardaway accepted the coaching job at Memphis East High School – Merriweather’s alma mater – with one goal in mind: to lead the boys from the neighborhood to a state championship in honor of their coach.  In a story E:60 has been following since 2012, reporter Lisa Salters tells the story of a powerful act of friendship, built upon a shared love of basketball.

30 for 30 Shorts: “When The King Held Court” Debuts
contact: carrie.b.kreiswirth@espn.com
The next documentary short in ESPN Films’ 30 for 30 Shorts series, “When The King Held Court,” debuted today, April 19, on espn.com/30for30/shorts. The film will make its broadcast debut in the week on Friday Night Movie Night, during the 6 p.m. hour of SportsCenter.

The name Elvis Presley evokes a lot of memories: the music, the hips, the hair, the screaming fans. But one thing about “The King of Rock and Roll” that few commoners saw was his passion for racquetball. In this 30 for 30 Short laced with animation and interviews, viewers will learn why the legendary entertainer got involved in the sport, how he almost rescued it with a chain of Presley’s Center Courts and what the elaborate court he had built at Graceland looked like. “The King” died on August 16, 1977, but perhaps he died happy. He had been playing racquetball that morning. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=15197925
