After three seasons as offensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins, Sean McVay has been hired as the head coach for the Los Angeles Rams. McVay, 30, is the youngest head coach ever hired in NFL history. He first entered the NFL coaching ranks with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a coaching assistant in 2008.
After a season as tight ends coach for the UFL’s Florida Tuskers, McVay joined the Redskins in 2010 as an offensive assistant before being promoted to tight end coach in 2011.
In his first season in the position as tight ends coach, McVay helped Fred Davis post career-highs in receptions (59) and receiving yards (796).
During the 2013 season, McVay helped then-rookie tight end Jordan Reed in his transition to the NFL, as the third-round pick collected 45 receptions for 499 yards despite appearing in only nine games. Reed was named to PFWA’s All-Rookie Team.
Veteran Logan Paulsen, meanwhile, caught 28 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns, which still remains his career-high.
When Jay Gruden was hired as head coach in 2014, McVay was promoted to offensive coordinator.
