HashPoll is the latest voting project brought to you by ESCToday, your favourite Eurovision news centre. Taking advantage of the online tools provided by the social media platform of Facebook, we collaborated with a Greek software development company, OTO Dev to build an interesting yet innovative live voting poll which we hope you will enjoy.
The Idea behind HashPoll
Based on the idea of the live reaction polls on Facebook, which ESCToday was the only Eurovision medium to use, our team came up with the idea of having a live poll which would provide more options rather than the 6 Facebook reactions (like, love etc). We reached out OTO Dev which developed for us a mechanism that would create the live video polls and fetch your votes though your comments.
The process is simple as a-b-c. You just have to leave a comment with the hashtag that represents your favourite act. All the hashtags appear on the participants list as well as on their photos, marked with the pink coloured box. You can vote as many times as you want and as many acts as you want!
See HashPoll in action
During the live broadcast, everyone with a Facebook account can vote on our polls and see the results live on their screen! Through HashPoll our readers will get the chance to express their opinion by voting. Of course our aim is to make those polls the spike that will start the Eurovision conversation. Last night, ESCToday run a test HashPoll with the Finnish representatives asking for our followers to cast their votes. The results were interesting showing Emma as the winner.
