Ron Gelok on the Best MLM Facebook Recruiting Formula and God

Ron Gelok was born an Entrepreneur. After selling lemonade, he moved into Real Estate. That crashed. Then, he discovered network marketing. His story.

Wow Ron! I’m honored to have this interview with you. I’ve been watching your blog and brand for years and can’t wait to learn more about you. So, let’s get started!

First off, what was childhood like, what did you want to do when you ‘grew up’, and what did your parents do for a living?

When I was a kid I wanted to become a professional skateboarder.  I did pretty well as I got older but had a lot of injuries and never quite made it to that level. My parents were always involved in insurance sales.

~

At one point, you were selling lemonade as a kid while your parents were selling furniture off to pay the bills, how did this period influence you later in life?

Let me clarify.  We had gone through some tough times and at one point my parents had to start selling our furniture in order to keep food on the table for me and my sister.  I am so thankful that was only temporary and that my father is now one of the most successful financial planners in the country.

Because of that experience I believe I was bitten with the entrepreneurial bug at a young age.  Years later I started selling candy door to door and having my own lemonade stands.  I recruited the other neighborhood kids to sell candy and lemonade with me.

Little did I know that network marketing was going to part of my future.  I’ve always thought that owning your own business allowed yourself to be in control of your destiny and that I would not run the risk of experiencing financial adversities again. How naive I was…

~

You don’t conceal the fact that God is what kept you and your family going during these rough times. Has God always been part of your life, and has he ever made an “appearance” to you in person?

I learned that seeking financial success, high status, helping tons of people, being a top recruiter/producer or to be #1 in anything are not the source of lasting fulfillment, and in itself is vanity.

Even when I had achieved all of those things it did not satisfy me and I turned to other things like drug abuse and lascivious relationships only to find that I was worse off than before.

I remember praying and crying out to God to help me and save me.  Shortly after I had 2 women show up at my front door and say, “God sent us to help you, come with us.”  I left everything behind and went with them.  Two weeks later I was back in New Jersey with my family and on on the long road to recovery.

Since then I’ve learned the truth about God’s love for me and how to work WITH God and still have great results but find fulfillment through working with Him and His love for me.

These experiences lead me to develop the business Christ Centered Coaching where I train entrepreneurs to work with God in business and develop their online marketing and presence.

How long did you do Real Estate, and when did that profession turn sour for you, and what led you to network marketing?

I owned a real estate company for about 4.5 years and I had to let that go because my drug abuse got out of control.  I still love real estate investing and own some rental property.

I turned to network marketing because I needed something different to do.  Real Estate was going sour for me which I allowed to make me depressed and turn to other things other than God.

A friend of mine, Ray Higdon, who was also in real estate was having a similar business experience due to the change in the marketplace and introduced me to network marketing.

What were the first couple years like in network marketing, what was the hardest lesson, and what was the most valuable lesson learned?

The first couple of years in network marketing was tough. I learned to not take rejection personally and to not be addicted to the outcome of signing someone up.

I eventually learned to rely on the Lord to bring me the right people for my business and to be diligent with my efforts.  I believe the Lord wants me to succeed more than I do for myself and I need to be sensitive to God’s leading of peace when making decisions.

If you pray and answers come that are covered in peace, I move in that direction.  If things come up that are covered in stress, anxiety, doubt, fear, or worry I will not move in that.  It is possible to be outside of your comfort zone but still be at peace.

The hardest lesson to learn is that you can not control people. I had two out of the company’s top 10 recruiters on my personal team and worked with them regularly.

They were cross-recruited inside of the same company and corporate allowed them to switch to another team and work with another leader. (I know longer work with that company).

It was hard to learn after years of supporting people and working with them and no matter how much you care for others you can only help those who are willing to help themselves just as much.  You can not control people and shouldn’t try to.

I love your blog! How old is it, how many posts are on it, and what is the daily traffic like?

Thanks Erik! I have no idea, probably several hundred posts.  Daily traffic ranges based on the paid marketing I’m sending to my site.  I don’t like to rely just on SEO because google can change their criteria for search engine rankings whenever they want.  I think what is more important is building an email list.

~

What has been the best SEO you’ve done on it?

The most effective SEO I have done for my blog is creating content on youtube and pointing that back to my blog.

I love your article “What does God Think of Your Home-Based Business.” Can you explain a little of the correlation you made between God and network marketing?

Network marketing and discipleship in christianity are incredibly paralleled.  Some people have even gone as far to say that network marketing is evil.

I do not agree with that statement, but due to support the idea of network marketing or anything else running the risk of becoming an idol or mini god in a person’s life which then would be a problem.

Think about it like this for example. Jesus recruited 12 disciples who then spread the gospel and turned into hundreds, then thousands, and now millions of christians across the world.

Network marketing grows in the same concept.  You personally share your experience with a network marketing company and invite someone else to use or experience the product and if they like they can share the company with others.

I recently let God back into my life and my home based business exploded. How does letting God into your life help your MLM?

Wow, I am happy to hear that Erik!  I think the biggest thing is for God to have the #1 priority in our lives.  There is a verse that I really like, Matthew 6:33 shares,

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

This doesn’t always mean that you have more team members or money because you can not use God as a magical ATM machine.

However, what it does mean is that you can live an abundant and prosperous life which often means peace and provision for your life.  If network marketing is the vehicle for that, awesome! If not that’s ok too and just means God has better plans for you.

You have a huge YouTube channel! How has video helped your online business, who should shoot video, and what are some tips on doing effective video marketing?

Video has been my best marketing strategy other than blogging to get free leads and sign ups into my business. Anyone can use video marketing to attracts leads and sign ups to themselves.

The biggest things I would say is provide information that solves problems.  Figure out “who” do you want to market to, what problems do they have, what answers can you provide to solves those problems, and lastly make a command to your audience to take some kind of action (CTA – call to action)

What’s the best way you generate Leads this day, and can you tell us about your Facebook Recruiting Formula?

The Facebook Recruiting Formula is a course I developed that shares how I have sponsored several hundred people through social media.

The course gives you step by step what to do. It shares how you should set up your profile, what NOT to do on social media, how to talk to people you do know and those that you don’t. By following my formula you and your team can have tremendous results and grow a team easily.

What is your favorite quote and why?

“Delay is not Defeat” – Ron Gelok III

This is something i’ve been saying due to the amount of adversity and setbacks I have experienced in my life. No matter what life throws at me or what the attacks of the devil may be on a person’s life you can always overcome through the power of Jesus.  We are more than conquerors.

“For what shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his soul?” – Jesus Christ

All the success in the world doesn’t compare, won’t bring the lasting fulfillment, and abundance of life that a relationship with Jesus brings. I’ve learned this the hard way and when I am tempted to do things my way I remember how empty that can be.
