Each Wednesday I share the heart behind one of the resources our team has developed. This week’s resource is a free Plus Membership for NewChurches.com—our new resource for church planting, multisite, and multiplication.
“When are you and Kaye going to have kids?” we were asked. And our response, which is typical, was “We aren’t ready yet.” And of course, the answer back to us was wise: “You will never be ready. There is never going to be a perfect time.”
Multiplying our family has been a joyful blessing, but it is not something you can adequately be ready for. It is so overwhelming, gloriously so, but overwhelming nonetheless. I am so grateful though that we did not wait until the “perfect time” because the perfect time would never have come.
There’s never a perfect time to have a baby. And there is never a perfect time to plant a church. Or launch a new campus. There is never a perfect time to multiply because multiplication is messy. If you wait until everything is perfect to multiply your ministry, you never will.
We can plan and prepare, but inevitably, there will always be curve balls. There will always be challenges. In church planting, the assessment process may have revealed issues that need to be dealt with, funding might be slow, or finding a location may be challenging. In launching a new campus, you may not be able to find the right campus pastor, figure out central services, or determine your decision-making matrix. In every case, multiplication is messy because life is messy.
